winter windsurfing

Just wondering is it safe for a beginner to sail in rose bay manly on a westerly type wind,SSw or NNW.

I wouldn't, go to Wellington point on a westerly, launch from the north side, there is a sandbar between the point and king island.

Best rule of thumb is to avoid windsurfing in offshore winds.. If you have a problem with gear of get exhausted then the wind would drift you away from shore.
Also conditions always look much safer in offshore winds but are actually the opposite. White caps are easy to see when the waves are coming toward you, but are not obvious when going away from you...
