Hi,

I was kindly referred to this nice forum by "Windsurfing Queensland" guys in search of the answer to my quest :)

I am coming to Australia in late April - May 2010 and am looking for a spot around Brisbane (up/down the coast) to further practice the very modest windsurfing skills I acquired this year. The focus was more on flat water than waves; I saw on the net that there are locations in Queensland where this is doable. But I could find only one school in Brisbane... I wondered if anyone knows of others? I know the dates for the trip are well into the future, but as I come all the way across the world, I thought I'd start planning early :)

Thanks for any guidelines/hints!

i'm guessing you found surf connect on the net. they are by all reports pretty good. the other school is run by board crazy in wooloongabba. A year or so ago my girlfriend and I went to Simon and julie from Board Crazy for some group lessons run out of Manly ( brisbane) and loved it.

their website is

That's the last time I had a decent sail.

Thank you all for your inputs.

In one of the replies I was advised that BNE is not a good area for flatwater windsurfing around late April-May and I should look further north... So my quest now turns into schools between Brisbane and Cairns?! :D Wow, that some distance.... I'd rather limit it like Brisbane to Mackay or Whitsundays?...

Any ideas on this strip of land? Any schools there?

Thanks a lot again!

Hmm not sure how flat you want it but there's not waves where I sail in Brisbane.
Manly,Wello, Vicky Point are all good spots for learning ect.

Caloundra in the sunshine coast, seems to be a good spot for flat water.
I never been there but I'm planning to go next December.
Have you guys ever tried that?

Golden beach is beautiful. Crystal clean water = fun.
The mach 5 current can be tricky for learning, but so is your first duck gybe.
Go for it. They have a rescue tinnie so you can't get into too much trouble.

boardcrazy @ manly (wind-surf.com.au) would be my pick.

Get into it - you won't look back!!!!!!!

BTW, do you guys know what type of gear they hire at goldenbeachhire... I wrote them an email to ask, but they didn't replay.
I'm just worried they only have huge beginners board.

Hi Mmarcelio & gnacoo,

i know they definately have huge beginners gear at golden beach. not sure about smaller stuff as i haven't seen any one their racks.

if you can't get in touch with them via email try emailing Luke at sunshine coast sailboards, he may know.

you can also try

sunshine coast

caloundra wind and surf (peter) - they do lessons and have gear for all levels plus do long term gear hire

Brisbane

surfconnect (padi) - he does lessons as well as hires gear for beginners and intermediates and does long term gear hire.

also try board crazy (simon) - definately does lessons but not sure on hire gear for general use or whether he does intermediate gear hire.

Gold Coast

Try SurfFX. i'm not sure about gear hire but believe they may be able to organise lessons.

cheers.
