Tomz might see a bit of wind. I think 5.8 or smaller is best for Suttons.
I have a date late arvo and that's just when the wind is supposed to turn up.
If it blows I'll be there. I feel inspired by that vid of the old guy chasing the loop.

Well I went to Suttons. The wind was too northerly for that beach. I grovelled out to the wind line what seemed like a kilometre or more and got enough to get my 5.8 working. I felt like a lost soul all alone out there.

More wind tomz. I think I'll try further north. Is it Queen's beach that has a better angle for a northerly.

Or Mooloolaba maybe....

i haven't sailed QBN in a true Northerly. In a NE there is a small wind shadow in close but it's a great place to sail. some very large bumps out off the rocks.

mooloolaba is great in a northerly. although dead onshore can make it a place where you point all day.

had a couple of good 5m days at the spit recently - great bunch of locals sail there don't hesitate to have a chat. the NE gave conditions not unlike Queens (as there had been no SE) except for the clean water and beach and beachlife and...

Queens is good in 20+ N

I might give it a go again. Graph says wind all day. I'll try and get there by noon.
See ya there.

<edit> What's the best tide for a wave there?

yeah between 5-7 knots.

i figure it's either early or late. it's about an hour drive for me but i could get there at 10am at a push.

early or arvo i am easy either way.

nicholas from WW was also keen to join in and climber is also.

I could go early or late too. Early would make a nice change. Might try for 10 then.
Its not as if my wild social life will keep me up all night.

hehe, there was a time we sat behind the garden bed to get out of the rain.

it was pretty full on today. i am so glad i made the trip. swallowed some water.
had a walk or 2 of shame. started off around 15-22 knots on the 5.8 and then got to the point where it was hitting 4.2 weather. i pulled the pin once my board started lifting off the water. by packup time it was pushing 30's and the water went white.

wind was swinging around also. going from SE to ENE....

but overall fantastic!!!!!

tomorrow i sail again!

Yes Fun was had by all..
Got there about 12.30, Gesty had up a 5.8...., rigged a 5.3 and was verrrryyyy streeeectched at times.
Have no idea how gesalt even sailed with the 5.8.
Got some great air time....even got to check out the bottom of the ocean as well..bailed from a high back loop attempt and the ocean floor broke my fall..
Ahhh good times...looking forward to tomorrow

cheers all

PS.. thank Lfish for the photos

You guys wana try Humpybong yacht club on a SE ,heeps less gusty than Margate and Suttons (which I think sucks in a SE-E).these spots are great in a NE.but for some reason too onshore and gusty in a se until you get out the back .then at low tide you got those reefs to contend with.At the yacht club its best on a full tide which has turned and going out the tide comes out of the Pine river and it's wind against tide which makes for some huge waves. It can be a little gusty in close because of the jetty but once you get out 100m (you can walk out ) it blows like **** and it's constant.this spot even works in a SW .Biggest day i've been out there in was a 45kt southerly ,,,the waves were overhead..

I find at Margate/Suttons in a SE or E theres a big dead spot up to 200m of the beach because of the foreshore (trees ,houses ect) and because its onshore sometimes its a struggle to get to the wind.
I've been sailing these spots for 25 years.
