You beat me to it Dan, We have set the dates today (I believe Adrian will be in contact with you shortly)

The big event will be held over the last weekend of March, 28th/29th at Currumbin. This is generally around the prime time of year for wind and swell.

We are finalising a naming rights sponsor and will post up more details about this event as we have them sorted, but rest assured this is happening and we are keen to see a big comp on the Goldy once again.

would you please ensure that waves are within my 3ft limit

thank you very much

p.s is there a reason why a comp could not be held further north on more exposed beaches to increase the chance of good winds, or is there some council / political limitations making it only possible to hold them around the currumbin area? would be awesome to watch you guys have a comp in a spot which would allow you to do some ball tearing aerial stuff

Good Question HC, the reason for Currumbin is two fold.

On it's day Currumbin is simply one of the best down-the-line wave sailing breaks on the east coast, for wave riding. But point taken, it really isn't an aerial paradise.

The other is that the amenities down that way to make it a good destination for both the sailors and their families. On the Goldy we could really only go as far north as Nobby's for an event that is friendly to both sailors and spectators. Everywhere else is either very exposed, very difficult to get parking, and very busy.

Rest assured we will be looking at more venues next season, and I would really like to get another event happening at Narrowneck like in the old days. But for this year it has just panned out that the Sth end has been the pick.

We are still looking to run an expression session event around mid February to our usual format, which will be on the Sunny Coast again. I just wanted to get these dates out there early so the guys that are travelling can get up here.

My suggestion is to hold it right out the front of Surfers and call it the Tinsil Town Classic!!

I have some contacts in the Meter Maids community so they may be keen to sponsor the event. ...They love a good re-enrty!

But why not wait until Indy (or A1) is back in town and make a weekend of it?

Many years ago there was a comp sponsored by Sheraton Mirage that was run in front of the resort up on the Spit.
