in the process of proving my good friend MK wrong [}:)]
i started going through the wind records for the last year to see how much wind we've had. ![]()
to my surprise, it's been pumping.
data goes back as far as dec 07.
take a few knots off the top because it's the GC seaway but that is a good indicater for VP. looking through each month we regularly got 20-30 knots and even scored quite a few 30-40 knot days each month. ![]()
the months are listed at the bottom of the page.www.bom.gov.au/climate/dwo/200712/html/IDCJDW4050.200712.shtml
while we have the walker circulation happening and lasting another couple of years i reckon all looks good.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walker_circulation
Haha does that include after dark and storm conditions all unsailable? How many nights have you looked outside and gone damn because it is cranking. Take it from someone that is at the beach every other day conditions have been steadily on a decline since '05.
stunned shocked and stunned. ![]()
agree there hasn't been any good NE winds but it's been pumping everywhere else. to much hanging out at wello.
2 years back i rode formula most weekends. last year it was my 6.4m and this year so far the 5.8m
the wind goes in cycles. el nino/la nina. 07,08 in my mind have been awesome. the wind records say the same thing. i'm thinking another 2 years of good wind and then back to the formula kit until next cycle.
the graph i listed is a 3pm record.
OK sorry man didn't look at the data... it is aus day and i've had a fair amount of joy. But just remember the statistics are in kph so pretty much half them and then subtract 5 knots.
I will say that I have rarely looked at using the formula board at all, those days I have grabbed it I have been well powered on the board. You cannot pick whether wello will be lighter or not, there were a few ne'ers last week where it was windier at wello than manly.
Oh and justin considering your queries on hull performance... http://www.gpsteamchallenge.com.au/showsession.php?date=2009-01-13&team=6
I think that answers your questions ![]()
I reckon that fin has about the same limit as the 66cm fin I used before- it is so stiff. After that session it felt like I had been leg pressing a couple of hundred kg's legs were just jelly and they aint exactly small. I don't know how Sean and smaller people hold them down when its honking. I suppose thats what the big rig is for. The board rides alot free'er than the other one even Vambo is impressed ![]()
vambo changed. ![]()
first he buys a wave board and goes jumping 6 foot in the air
now he's been sailing formula. well quasi formula. i'll lend you a proper fin. ![]()
i have a soft 66cm C3. it will snap ya knee over 15 knots. the stiffer deb custom 70cm is very quick and the stiffness gives it a higher top end.
Been trying my best to lead him astray ![]()
I still don't know anything about formula (fins etc), it's a different and strange world.
i think the modern boards have changed the fin design with their super wide tails,.
i had to go through 3 fins for my old school board before finding one i liked. that's about as much as i know. ![]()
