What would it mean if it does?

Yes it was great back in the mid 80's but not sure it's a good thing for the environment on the passage side. But I guess nature will do what I wants to. Will also mean the bar will work better in a north east without the wind shadow from the hill.

^^ exactly those poor pelicans where will they go , they must think we are idiots . I cant believe how exposed the bunkers are. Will have to go for a look .

Not sure if you could class the old weather board homes along Golden Beach multi million or in the same catergory as the GC homes.

I would think the engineers who built Pelican waters and the Greg N golf course will be doing a few calc for flooding , I think this is going to be the biggist concern. Come wet season add a high tide and a signifiantly greater bar mouth you might find hole suburbs under water with 90% of GB high and dry .

I love it when they say Pumicestone Passage is under threat, as if is in a pristeen state now. Have you seen an recent aerial photo of the place. Forget what Caloundra South will do, the damage has already been done!!!!!!!!!!!!

The old guy that lives next door has been fishing the passage all his life, they used to walk to the end of the street and catch 300 whiting off the beach, now he spends all night out in a boat to catch 3. Degradation/depletion of the mangroves due to the development of Golden Beach and more so, Pelican Waters have already destroyed the passage. It astounded me that during the whole Caloundra South argument no one even questioned the approval of a major tidal development in Pelican Waters, not one word other than "they are for sale!"

Bring on the new mouth! Shame there isn't a series of big lows forming to really set it up for next windy season :)

@ aus31, agreed, it was like it once before. so it will be fine. even when it was open the waves didn't roll through all the way.

@ggh, flooding is usually caused from increased catchment upstream due to development. sea level is sea level so it doesn't really matter where the mouth of the river occurs.

I thought if you increased the size of the bar mouth or in this case has up to three zones break through, than you effectively increase the amount of water flowing into the passage during high tide. During flood conditions (at high tide )this increased water flow resists the run off water tyring to get out, causing flooding upstream in particluar canal estates . There would have been hydrolic reports done by the engineers who did the design for Pelican waters to determin this effect however those calculation may need to be reviewed if the orignal input data has changed .
