You blokes need to invest in a paddle!
I'm Knackered 4 days straight, I'm aiming for 7, will see how I go, am having an affair with an 'ol woman' only just got my board back from doctors after the damage has been fixed and rash cleared, she is a mean mistress when your on the 'rock's with her!

Man you've got too much spare time designing from scratch! Wow! My only thoughts...too wide, long and volume.

I'm currently riding a Naish Nalu 9Ft5 (80-85kg) and If I went again I'd go a tad smaller, have ridden a few brands and sizes, most recently Fanatic Allwave 9f 1" . My Board specification is 'need to be able to paddle flat water, open ocean and small to medium waves' pretty much most designs 30-32Inch wide 9ft-10ft will do that for an 80-90kg person. And kids can paddle it.


The SUPS designs out now have really improved in their stability and versatility, you can go a lot smaller on size and they still will paddle ok in flat water and handle small to med waves, before you need to get a dedicated wave SUP.

When you have 'too much' volume they become a bit unstable ..sounds like an oxymoron but its true, the board sits too high on the water and is more prone to small chop, waves etc, they kinda get rocky, if it sit's 'in' the water a bit they are more stable in less than perfect conditions and will surf a bit better. And at the low 9ft size you can fit them in a Van/Station wagon!

FWIW the Naish has quite a lot of nose and tail rocker, wide nose than you can nose ride a bit, I'm a crap surfer but can get waves on this...change the centre fin down from the big one to a small one so its 3 thrusters and its a completely different board, really loose and in the right hands probably can surf really well.

The Fanatic AW is really stable, easy to paddle but flatter and bit more 'skatey' , both boards are easy to paddle for my kids , they can turn and control smaller boards much easier, I like both boards a lot.

If I was 'designing' from scratch I'd make a combination of both boards, dropping the volume a bit, the fanatic has a Sail Plug, Naish does not (dumb!) and IMO you don't need a centreboard, Iv'e sailed other Naish Sups(longer) as a Sup sail, lots of fun, just use the rail to get up wind.

The one thing I have learnt is that when you get into the SUPs that have a bit more performance in them, there is actually a LOT of difference in 'feel' with the designs, like windsurfing SUPS have their 'dedicated' designs, but around that 9-10ft 30-32inch wide range its pretty cool what you can do with just one board. If you go too 'wide' they will be crap to paddle also as you will leaning over 'reaching' rather having a nice vertical blade and pull/pushing the paddle.

As soon as you have it nailed and built let us all know,,,cause it's shore to blow hard the day its built!

Nice! That's user friendly! Its been amazing up here lately, water is so clear and warm. Supped 5/6 days so far!

Try and have a look at the Fanatic AW 9ft 6, to pinch some measurements etc...it's kinda what you have described you need, but bit shorter, Naish have a new BIG board out too, think its the Odyssey? Also the Starboard Whopper has always had good reviews for a 'bigger' allround board also, might as well leverage ideas where you can, no pint reinventing the wheel!

When you get finished, send the recipe to China, get 10,000 made for a few cups of rice, do some fancy marketing that involves lots of girls in Bikini's and Shazam..you have a new brand for the mass's,, cha ching cha ching!

Make sure you add a 'special' secret thingabig dooza wacky to the design so we can charge way more for them also.!

But make sure not too build them too well, they have to break, implode, delaminate etc after not too long.. we need a replacement market, to sustain our lifestyle!
