Hi

Im considering popping up to brissy to see a mate, and was wondering whether its safe to windsurf in moreton bay area and maybe hit some of the islands there for a session like macleay/ long/ russell islands etc?

just wondering if anyone else windsurfs there and whether its bull sharky at all, and are the islands in the bay worth a visit?

Plenty of sailors here.

Plenty of sharks too, no point worrying about em- they just go about doing their thing, there are definitely higher risk areas though. There is heaps of food for them in the bay- dolphin, turtle, dugong, fish, crab pots, fisherman & kayakers so why would they be interested in us.

Most dont sail to the islands. Green island is easy sailed to, only 1 safe landing spot (the beach pictured). Used to be some nice spots in the reef at the back to swim in. Coochie island also easy sailed to, isn't too bad there- a little bit small town touristy. Russell island etc down the bottom of the bay isnt really that open for wind. The rest are a little risky with strong currents/fair distance/wind shadows/really big fish and not really that many landing spots.

Moreton & Stradbroke are worth going to if not sailing (or if sailing over there- not to there).
