Hey guys,
Im new to windsurfing and the two beginner boards i have have 3.75 and 4 mte sails on them.
I bought some more sails online for a good cheap price, I wnet to put the 5.0 one on today and found that the mast wasnt long enough.

Do i need a longer mast or is it the extension that i need.?

As i said I new to this, so expect the stupid questions to come thick and fast.
haha

I love the sport, its the best!!!!!!!!!!!

its simple, you should see written on the sail the luff size or in some cases information about the recommended mast length. For example if the luff size is 415, then you can rig the sail with a 400cm mast with 15 cm of extension.
My 5 m sail rigs on a 400mast+10cm extension.
hope that helped

Most modern sails are designed to rig on a short mast with 10 - 35 cm of extension.
Older sails are often designed for a longer mast. Example, I just traded an old 5.7 which rigged on a 460 for a new 5.8 that rigs on a 430.
You need to check the details before you buy, written on the sail as noted above.
