Don't think too hard start off getting the first 100 degrees out of the way just carve into a turn at full speed and see what happens! Once you get the entrance sorted the exit is another step. That's my take anyway! Lean forward.
try, fall off, try, fall off, try, fall off,
repeat 200 times in as short a time as possible.
Oh and go to you tube for gybe instructions, some good points there in step by step procedures to get to started on the right track.
Then repeat the first paragragh.
Haircut taught me and the best advice was imagine when you take your foot out of the back strap and place it in the middle of the board or slightly more leeward imagine its a big brake leaver keep that turning(gyping) pressure steady and constant until the sail flips(with a little flick by you) and only move the feet and pressure when the turn is complete
Preparation. You know if you're going to make it or not before you start the turn most times.
Have your front hand as far forward as possible just before you enter the turn, next to boom head. Makes flipping the rig so much easier and it's one less thing to think about.
I replayed this a lot, memorised it and copied him.
Silly as it sounds its actually what you need to do, don't wait till you get to where you normally turn around to try and jibe. Try it every 100m or as soon as you have good speed.
You need to tune your brain to do stuff without you thinking about it, just like breathing and your heart pumping blood, you don't think about it just happens.
But first you need to follow some steps, I found watching just one good instuctional vid the night before helped my body to start the process without to much thought.
The only thought I do now is " unhook, back foot out of strap and to centre of board" and I can't tell you what I do next, it just happens, until I get tired that is and the legs forget to move.
Another tip, have really good speed, don't slow down before the jibe.
One day you pull one off, then another and another, the first is the hardest.
You must persist,
Video, Try, fall off, you know the drill.
Weve all been there![]()
