unbelievable.
i turn up at VP after buying the lovely wife a b'day pressy,
now it blowin, white caps, 12+ knots,
i reach for the 8.5 and ring MK,
as i'm sliding the mast up the luff the wind starts to pick up.
ok now we are talking solid 15 knots and it looks to be increasing.
alrighty then,
i stash te 8.5 and reach for the 6.4 ![]()
game on as they say!!!! ![]()
just finish rigging and the wind starts to die. along with my heart which is now small shrivelled and BLACK!
never, ever again will i walk out of the house without the formula board unless the trees are bending over. ![]()
hey i just saw at the end of channel 7 news that if anyone has a story they think should be covered to contact the network.
i've got a story for them.
huey is a big fat biatch!
Hi, I usually sail at Wello. Was at VP today at Thompsons Beach, was about 230pm, tide was out quite far. Was wondering were you guys rig up? Not sure what the wind was at that time but felt well strong enough to sail. Wanted to go out but looked like quite a walk out. Was also worried about hitting the bottom. Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers.
that's gold notwal....![]()
Hi Remo,
depends really, if it's higher tides i rig at the western end at the main windsurfing area. normally a good crew.
if it's low tide i rig at the eastern end near the toilets with the speed crew. just a short 100m into the channel and off you go.
i reckon 2.30 was about the time i put the 8.5 back in the car. the tide was about mid tide, there was still enough water to sail in the channels with only a shortish walk. by 4pm the water was up to the drain pipes.
at low tide the channel comes up as far as the white posts at the *western* end, any further than that and you will lose your fin.
at high tide you can sail all the way to the *west* and gybe in dead flat water. some guys used to do speed sailing up there.
i've sailed most of redland bay on my formula kit at dead low tide. there are a few areas to watch with the 70cm fin but the whole area is about 1+m deep most of the way to redland bay. in the channels there is a lot more depth.
only thing to watch is a bit of a sandbar that gets shallow at low tide if you are heading over to the bank off coochie. also of course the area up in the creek mouth at mid tide. it is all exposed at low tide. the tip is to gybe at the white poles which mark the mouth of the creek.
Thanks Gestalt,
Will take that advice onbourd. Thinking more about it I left home at 100pm so was probably closer to 1 30. The wind was directly onshore when I was at the kids playground. Will definently be back down there when its blowing from the south.
sorry remo, i swapped some easts for wests in what i wrote... i put * * around them.
VP is my local so i like it.
i still go to wello in a NE if it's high tide and of course wello through most of winter.
pretty much sail most places if i can and VP is up there for blasting.
