looking at the cyclone track map suggests cat4 cyclone tracking the coast heading straight toward bundaberg.
if that happens guys keep your heads down and i hope all ends ok.
thinking of you all.
I have 12 sheets of ply ready to board up the front of the house if needed. Looks like it will probably miss us (just south of Mackay) but Cat 4 is pretty strong. This is when it isn't so good that the whole front of your house is glass louvers.
it will interesting to see where it goes. cat4 is very very strong and a tidal surge will accompany it.
Hopefully I'll get a sail in this weekend, but unfortunately have site meeting in Barcaldine on Monday Tuesday when best winds are forecast. I see on other thread you posted Gestalt, Hamish is on path to Yeppoon - whoo hoo.
just hoping another system forms in 3 weeks right near Fraser Island.
sausage you will need more than a few sheets of ply for the front of your house. What's the plan?
Obviously Jo would be doing all the work.
I'm going to give it a go at Yeppoon tomorrow. But if there is surf i am taking the surfboard with me too.
About time i got to use my 4.6 m sail again!
Anyone at Yeppoon going out ???
GCMOZ
Well, the house if boarded up and if all goes to plan the cyclone should cruise on by out to sea......hopefully. A 4.6m might be looking a bit big. I should be a cat 5 off the Whitsundays
And I nearly forgot. 3 masts and booms, 2 sailboards ranging from 80l to 155l, 5 sails assorted fins, bases etc and a kids rig have taken up residencey in the lounge room. That can't be left alone in my home made windsurfing shed in a storm like this!!
all that gear in the house. Where does the family go then ? ( my windsurfing gear is my family)
GCMOZ
The wife and 3 year are used to it. Usually, whenever I get a new bit of kit it has to spend a couple of weeks inside......to ease it into it's new home.

I will be out, hopefully we will get at least half a dozen or so sailers of the main beach at Yeppoon. I'm sure Sausage will there at some stage too....
Not sure what time I will be out. Low tide at about 1:30pm. Incomming tide in the afternoon could make some nice steep ramps!!!!!
Its looking good but the gusts are my fear! its getting stronegr and stronger but it might be above my abiltiy by the time i get there. I better take the new camera down for a few pics at least!
cheers

It is starting to look scary. I think it is also getting above my skill and equipment level as well.
Will still have a look at some stage today.
I am making an early decision. Its above my capabilities ! If it was flat water i would be happy but the way the wind is here at Gracemere it would be 3 times stronger at Yeppoon!
GaryK, good advice!!!
GCMOZ
PS if i am wrong the way it is at Yeppoon let me know ASAP
Spent the morning screwing down a roof and cleaning up a building site to our renovations around the corner.
Curiosity got the better of me - Rigged the 5.4 VMG and S-type 93. Had 3 runs in the most trying conditions. All I could do was try to wash speed off the board as the 2 m swells + .5m side chop + foamed out surface in gusts made it impossible to control. Think the sail was slightly too big as well![]()
Wind was about 33 kn gusting to 38knots. Well at least I know the limitations for that set up.
Hamish 1 - Sausage 0
Well if you got 3 runs in thats credible considering the conditions plus the foam???
Anyone else out ?
Sailed off northern end of Lammermoor Beach (Wreck Point) so I don't know if anyone was out off the sailing club, although I drove past there around 1.30 and didn't see anyone.
Wind about 40knots here at moment although 5pm BOM warning now has cyclone downgraded and tracking further out to sea missing Yeppoon altogether. Looks like I'll be going to Barcaldine for work tomorrow after all.
