Bringing the family to GC in the first week of May to check out the theme parks, so I will look at getting a sailing fix if I can hire some gear locally. From what I've gleaned off the web, The Broadwater and Southport are two options for flat water locations? Kinda curious if folks sail in the ocean. Is there a local spot for the ocean, and what are the typical sailing conditions like, i.e. wind direction, waves fro May? Coming from Adelaide I'm used to bump and jump stuff our local beaches offer.

depends what you're into but in a good swell and southerly or south easterly then currumbin alley gets good down the line.

if its northerly or north easterly then north kirra is good but a bit more onshore and port tack...

'the train' which is on the other side of the estuary from seaworld is a good flat water blasting spot or freestyle spot. works in south to east wind

hope this helps
