Hi, after about 15 years out of the sport, I have just acquired (but am yet to pick up) 2 sets of reasonably decent windsurf gear and am keen to get back into some windsurfing here on the Gold Coast.
I did all my windsurfing in Scotland and have done nothing in Australia to date so am looking for info on where best to go, who best to meet up with and what sort of wind conditions to look out for here on the Gold Coast.

I used to do mainly wave sailing back in the frigid waters of Scotland (full steamer suit with gloves boots and head gear) but understand that wind conditions are slightly different here on the coast and I will most likely be looking at flat water windsurfing. Anyone who can point me in the right direction or who knows of a regular meet and wouldn't mind having a Scottish tag along, please let me know.

Thanks in advance and look forward to getting back on the water after so long.

Aye, Mick

No Jocks allowed sorry!

Just joking of course, many of the lads sail at the end of Smith St you will find a carpark "beach side" and that works in most North winds, and South east through to North, anything West is a waste of time, i note there maybe a northerly Friday Saturday, see you down there, a good bunch of lads are always there.

And to add to sonic's posting, on a Westerly you just head up to Wellington Point.

Fantastic, thanks for the prompt responses guys. I'll take a look at the spots mentioned and the windwanderers link and may well try and make it our this Saturday!! I'll keep a look out for some windsurfers I suppose and come and say hi.

Thanks again and will no doubt see some of you at some point out on the water.

Aye, Mick

[If your after some waves then, Currumbin when it blows SE to SSE, N to NE, North Kirra for the mornig NW'ers, Nobies for the southerlies, when its windy enough to sail in the waves there will nearly allways be someone rigging up at one of those locations.]

Thanks oli7

I picked up the kit I bought over the weekend and am pretty chuffed with what I have. Boards look more wave like which I love but will need to see if the fitness is there after a few years out of the sport. I have a 275 x 50cm 100l F2 board which correct me if I'm wrong is more of a wave board? I also have a 6.2 & a 7m sail and weigh 74 kgs so i'm hoping this combination should see me get some good fun days? Can anyone tell me if this set up sounds like i'll see some broad water days or whether i'm likely to be looking for windier/wavier days at Currumbin?

Thanks for the replies to date, very useful.

Apologies for the newbie question and for posting here as well as a new topic, but it's been years since I last windsurfed but am itching to get my recently purchased gear wet.

I also have a 6.2 & a 7m sail and weigh 74 kgs. looking at the forecast on windfinder it looks like we are expecting about 20-25 knots tomorrow at the Seaway. Do you think these conditions will suit my gear? Should I be getting out there and if so where?

Thanks in advance for your help while I find my feet on this forum.

Aye, Mick
