I am going to be in the Noosa area in mid July for a week or so. Any good spots recommended for a sail?
Will have 2 wave sails, 5.9 and 5.3 and either a wave Goya 80L or freeride Naish 90L.
Any recommendations?

howdy.

heading up there myself for a week in july. i've had a good sail off noosa beach in northwesterlies, and north easterlies, but anything with any strength will most likely be northwest this time of year, or southerlies, from my past experiences.

southerlies don't work at noosa beach so we will most likely have to go to caloundra bar or somewhere in between there and castaways

cheers

Thanks for that info. I will actually be at Castaways for the time there. Looking forward to it.

local knowledge here...Coolum in SE in the pocket next to the head land by far best for the gear you described,,,if its too south of Mudjimba beach, or cotton tree at maroochy or caloundra river mouth (beware the current!)
Castaways in SE is too windswept with moving water, no good and too onshore.

Hi kamando,

Checked out the Coolum spot on google maps and it looks good. What about the Lakes inland of Noosa? Are they any good?

Cootharaba is the pick of the lakes. Runs so long your feet go numb - even in summer. It's only 20min drive from Noosa

agree cootharaba is pretty good the wind is a bit lighter there than on the coast though. a 25knot forecast is good for it

personally i don't care where i end up as long as there is plenty of wind

had many a good down-the-line session at mudjimba on a south-westerly... if you're lucky, july is normaly a good month for sou-westers

You do realise that within miutes of your post, the forecast began it's ritual entropy attack.

Like the Enterprise in a singularity......................
Never mind, it will be back next week.

june/july/august normally provides a weird local wind effect... very early in the morning south westerlies on the sunshine coast

ahh ok.

i went to boreen point today. was gusty mostly, but improved toward the end of the day.

I'm trying to decide whether to stay on or go back to gc tonight.

You haven't missed anything really. To be frank, you would be better holidaying somewhere between GoldCoast and Bris in winter, then you'd have the best of quite a few options. It's quite limited up here in winter, especially if surf is messy

Hi Haircut,

Looks like there will be B.A. wind up there until Thursday, so I may not be sailing at all. We leave on up there on next Friday. Being a tourist may have to do. Oh well at least it looks warmish and sunny. Anyone for tennis? Wettie and cossies are packed too.

Have some in-laws at the GC - Biggara Waters. May impose on them sometime in the future for a stay. Will check their digs out on way home.

Good luck with your sailing. May see you one day at the GC.

Wayne.
