Hi All,

Anyone interested should put aside the 28th of July for the WQ AGM. It will be held at the Moreton Bay Trailer Boat Club at around 6.30pm (details and agenda to be finalised at a later date).

Please make an effort to come along and have your say in how the club is being run and also find out what the plans are for coming year.

We had quite a good turn out last year and would like to repeat that again this year if possible. The club has a nice relaxed environment where we can get a bite to eat and a cold beer to help stimulate conversation.

I look forward to seeing you there.

Regards, Scot Farley (President WQ)

I have had a talk to my inside source (thanks Richiefish) and apparently there is a big party on at the club that night so I propose we make it a little earlier so we can have the meeting while it is less busy/quieter.

If we make it 5.30pm we can have a little tippler after the meeting and perhaps take in a bit of the band, (booked for the party) which should make for a good bit of after AGM entertainment.

Richiefish may be able to shed some more light on the band which has been booked for the night?

"The Avengers" are playing that night. A semi famous local band from the 60/70's. They're old guys but excellent musicians and singers. They play all the classic old covers from the 60's etc lots of Beatles,Stones ,Creedence and more.

Hey Scot,
Just wondering, does Windsurfing Queensland do anything outside Brisvegas and the coasts?

Hi Sail Pilot.

The lack of resources in the sport made us look at this a few years back and we decided that WQ should become administrator to a number of affiliate clubs. With the help of Ian Fox from the AWA all the insurance was changed around and we developed a system that made it easy for third party clubs to affiliate with WQ and run their own programs under the WQ umbrella.

It has worked exceptionally well for some clubs and not so well for others, mainly due to the lack of support from the sailors who are resistant to sign up and get behind the clubs.

As it stands there is the Bayside Sailboard Club here in Brisbane, The Windwanders up the coast and the Brisbane Windsurfing Club in Scarborough.

Cheers,

A great turnout for the AGM last night (18 in attendance with lots of positive feedback) with some new faces and lots of enthusiasm for the coming season. Nothing much changed in the format or office bearers but there are some interesting changes in some of the affiliated clubs along with some exciting events being planned. I'll get the minutes up early next week.

Looking forward to a good year.

• Matters Arising from Previous AGM
o Scot still to produce and get POS brochure stands to shops
o Need to convert WQ web page to self managed site and swap back from Zero Seven

• Presentation of Annual Report (Scot Farley - President)
o Not the best year again for Slalom with low winds but a definite increase in interest in the course racing with its benefits of all year sailing
o Lack of following for some of the clubs, memberships down in QLD on previous years
• NSW 246;
• WA 216;

• Tas 52
• WindWanderers 23;
• Bayside Sailboard Club 59;

o Affiliation Fees and Insurance to remain as last year with the $15.00 flat fee for insurance regardless of whether completive or social.
• $150.00 affiliation with a waiver of individual membership fees until the $150.00 is met so smaller clubs not out of pocket
o ABN and TFN applied for and in place now on invoices

o Acceptance of Report by Ray Wilson, Seconded Tony Matta

• Presentation of Financial Report (Tony Matta - Treasurer)

Vice President – Ray Wilson
Secretary – Scot Farley
Treasurer – Tony Matta
Publicity Officer – Scot Farley
AWA Rep – Scot Farley
Affiliated Club Reps
Bayside – Simon Fyfe
Windwanders – Kellie Tusler
Brisbane Windsurfing Club – Padi
o Vote of thanks to outgoing representatives
o Election of new office bearers
o Group acceptance Richard Jack, Seconded Ray Wilson

• General Business
o Obvious major issue was the vote for kites ahead of windsurfers at the Rio Olympics and the fact that some of our sailors were not allowed to go to the London games after qualifying - Luke and Wayne here to discuss state of play in General Business
o Nationals – a rumour it may be held at Green Island in combination with some speed and marathon events as well? – May need volunteers

• New Business
o Luke and Wayne Baillie discussed the issues that have caused the current decision to vote kites ahead of windsurfing into the Rio Games and ways we can get involved to help overturn the decision (basically apply pressure to the people making or influencing that vote). Need 75% in November vote to overturn current decision. The good news is that the big players in Asia have invested heavily in the Olympic campaign for Rio and will be throwing a lot of weight behind reversing the decision.
o Lack of following for some of the clubs, memberships down on previous years – how do we increase people's desire to join clubs? – Decided as a group that it is up to the organisers of the clubs and WQ to generate the desire for people to get involved by making it more enticing to be a member.
o Parking at Wellington Point. Scot Farley offered a letter proposing a time allocation to the trailer bays so they are only for trailers up until 11.00 am and then open for general use.
o Scot Farley to apply for a membership to Queensland Outdoor Recreational Federation (QORF).
o Tony Matta looking into option of affiliating WQ with Yachting Australia so we can issue silver cards.
o Scot Farley to follow up Sudana Scott from Gren Island Beach Hire to see if he wants to start a FNQ windsurfing club.
o Big news, Kellie Tusler is now the president of the Windwanderers Club. Great plans for them with a lot of fresh enthusiasm and vigour and plans to have a Hervey Bay arm, run competitive and social events and tie in with the Lake Cootharabah Sailing Club to help learners take up the sport. Peter Nitschke is the treasurer and Justin Boland is the secretary and will also be running the Burrum Speed Event again.
o Pat O'Brion gave a report on the success and following of the Techno division at RQ and discussion was held to see if we couldn't cross pollinate between affiliated Windsurfing Clubs and RQ and other Yacht Clubs offering Course Racing.
o Bayside asked if WQ could fund new buoys and it was explained that WQ no longer generates an income as it is now acting as an administrative body and does not take direct memberships. The money currently in the bank which was generated through organized events prior to the new format and from selling assets such as the tinnie are there to be used as a loan for major events such as a National Title held in QLD so individuals do not have to dip into their own pockets as has happened in the past.

Great news for the WQ team. I was speaking to Bart Black this morning and he has stepped back up to the plate as Publicity Officer. He is a marketing guru and is full of vigour and new ideas to get Windsurfing back in the spotlight so keep an eye on this space.

Welcome back Bart.
