Gday Boys and Girls

Heading up your way next week and thinking about throwing the gear in the car. Any good flat water sailing spots around surfers paradise? I was looking on whereis and noticed hollywell looks like a descent body of water.

Anyway your thoughts would be helpful, and i don't mind a little drive for a good session, so go crazy. So lets keep out fingers crossed for the wind gods.

See you on the water

courtesy of swoosh

hope this helps

A = Shearwater Esplanade

B = The Train

C = KFC

shearwater esp. is fun and gets the best wind, but it's best when the wind is against the tide, and an outgoing tide travels south at the Shearwater

B & C offer more water than the map shows, and aren't so affected by current

Or go accross for some waves... windsurfing on the main beach at surfers is also pretty good... well i think so.. sometimes its very flat with no waves.. :) but I like the waves more.

... or Hollywell.

I know, I'm becoming a Hollywell fanboy.

Just watch the tide direction for anything north of the seaway. Goes in and out the seaway so you can derive from that. Lots of sandbanks everywhere at low tide. Watch that too. blah blah blah...

...The easy way is to just post on here before you go. Locals will know best. You'll always get a reply within an hour or two, usually.

What happened to the train at The Train? I'm sure there was an actual train there, but on StreetView(tm) I only see a train painted on a toilet block!

I'm with Dylan on this - I thought there was once an old 19th Century steam train in that park that kids climbed all over during my late eighties sojournes to the Coast (albeit by the time we had arrived lots of alcohol had been consumed so my memory cannot be relied on in this instance). Greenleader being a local of many years may shed some further light on it.

as i understand it but may stand corrected.

train was removed. i htink council saw it as an insirance risk or something like that.

then there was a public outcry......

so they painted a train on the toilet block that is beside where it used to be.

very GC!

I remember playing on the train when I was a youngen.
I guess when it was rusting out they put a fence up around it. Years later they removed it.
The train was there because there once was a train line from Brisbane to the Gold Coast. The line terminated at the end of "Railway Street" hence the name.
The railway stopped in the early 70's

And thats why its gone greenleader! Actually the kids used to love it but in this day and age of litigation it was always an accident waiting to happen.I wounder how the meeting went at council,"lets get rid of the train over night and paint a picture of a train on the bogs.....no one will notice, $25k please!

What about the Red Barron and rock and Roll Al, there use to be a couple of guys Mike and Ian dont know what happened to them either.

To think, you probably sat in Greenleader's p1ss. As littlies, we had a steam train as well in Cooee Bay park (Yeppoon) and thanks to GL I now know why it smelt like a public urinal too.

Just had a brainwave. Knock down the existing public toilets with the train mural, replace it with a real train and convert it into a public toilet. Then Greenleader can relive his adolescence again.

That is why I'm paid the big bucks
