after 6 months off the water we are holding our first meet and signon as WindWanderers Inc this coming weekend 29th at wellington point.
the forecast looks the goods with a strong northerly on the cards. Wello has been selected as the most central location for all.
We will be combining the meet with a gearswap to kick the summer off. everyone is welcome so come along, join in, and check out the club. the gearswap will start at 11am and the free bbq at the usual time of 1pm.
signup forms will be available on the day and for those unfamiliar with the club grab myself on the day and i'll fill you in with the details.
this years memberships are
$35 social member
$40 Race member
$50 Passionate member
the membership is yearly, provides the 24/7 AWA insurance which will allow entry into all AWA affiliated clubs australia wide including those in QLD. (some clubs have additional event fees on the day to cover event costs)
On joining the club all meets throughout the year are free and bbq's always provided.
cheers

Hi Gesalt

also
sent a PM re; your lastest board... love to hear back
Cheers
Climber
Justin, great work in getting the club up and running again. Bring it on I say!
I think this Q has been asked a billion times now but, what's the go if you have just joined another club? (I have just joined SEQW).
See you there, I love swapping trading!!
Da Vecta, I know for SEQWS, full members of other AWA affiliated club will be eligible to compete in events for the event cost.
Only SEQWS members will have access to end of year major prizes, and discounted access to SEQWS Merchandise (once we get that side of the club sorted). All competitors at each event will be eligible to win any individual event give aways.
I'm not sure if it will be working the same with all the other clubs though.
Good to see you have it all sorted Justin...I look forward to getting along to an event or two.
Good to see everyting up and running again with the WindWanderers Justin.
I hope everyone can get behind the clubs again this year and please remember that now the clubs are their own entities they have a fair bit more cost to cover so now it is more important than ever to become a member.
It is all good and well to turn up to events and have a good time but if we don't all support these guys they may not be around in the future and we will all miss out.
Great to see Wind wanderers up and pumping again. Impressed to see you guys out sailing in 40knots. It was the same in Sydney on the weekend and i decided to stay at home. Feeling a bit pathetic in retrospect.
Nice work - am totally bummed i cant make it - headin up to the lake this weekend for a nice relaxing weekend! Hopefully some wind thought so should be good!
aus301 - I think lake cootharaba would be a really awesome spot for a freestyle comp. The best format would be multiday (i.e weekend) so it gives the wind a chance to blow. It could be run through SEQW in conjunction with the sailing club up there. Anyway - just wanted to put it out there. there is an awesome camping ground and best of all - a killer pub within stumbling distance from the tent!
Hope everyone has a great weekend and may the the wind blow!!!!!
peace.
Justin, can you arrange a special booth for Windsurfing invalids, you know, a plazma telly with the latest vids, mags and a few pints of guiness ![]()
cheers guys and thanks Brett. ![]()
ok i have some answers and the website is updated. www.windwanderers.com
davectas -
anyone who holds a membership with any club in australia that is covered by the AWA insurance can attend wanderers meets. We are not about excluding people. the insurance is a necessary evil so anyone not currently covered by the AWA policy will need to join the club.
everyone will still need to fill out the membership forms and waivers for the year so i can make contact if needed and also for safety reasons. on the form you can state what club you are a part of if you are already.
panda -
the weekend away will be the burrum heads event.
haggar -
have you seen surfconnect's van? we will organise an event with Padi. it comes stocked with dvd's, flat screen etc. ![]()
p.s. bring all your gear for the gearswap. it's been a while since we've had one in brissy. i reckon the small gear will might stir things up with all of the wind we've had.
Saturday is the end of (s)coolies week. I think I'll have to go and collect what remains of my daughter. I'll try and get to Wello for the sign on but I am at the mercy of girls here.
looking at the setup on saturday.
does anyone have a gas camp bbq they could bring along ![]()
the bbq's are across the road and it would be good to setup right on the beach.
will have a marquee to house it all.
pm me if able to.
cheers.
Justin- just a suggestion. If you have a marquee can you put some sort of noticeboard area up for the gearswap so we can just post up our gear for sale thus not cluttering up the rigging area (which is kinda limited on a weekend and a northerly) and also us not having to drag gear there and having to babysit it.
well today was a very wierd day.
nothing about the forecast other than the storm went to plan. ![]()
funny thing is, as usual with the wanderers, we get the wierd weather events. (photos later tonight)
huey teased us all day as the wind went from calm to 12 knots and swung from SW al around to E at different times thorughout the day. Building then dropping off again.
we headed over to the bbq to start the consumption part of the day. one of the guys got a phone call to say it was blowing in brisbane and storms had developed. that cheered us all up. maybe we will get some wind.
once we finished the bbq kerry and I ran to qucikly pack up the marquee as the storms were rolling in fast and looking pretty mean. no sooner had we finished and the storm unleashed it's assult.
the start saw a water spout whip up right in front of us all and menacingly move towards us then take off across the beach. everyone scurried to grab their gear which was starting to lift off the ground and ran for the toilet block to stash the stuff and get out of the rain.
well,
all of us except one man that is.
i heard someone whisper, "who is that masked man" ![]()
another person pointed and shouted, look! it's Vando!!!!!
while all of us headed for the safety of a building "vando" grabbed his 6.8 and head out into the jaws of the beast, adding a new meaning to the term "lit up". ![]()
half an hour later it was all over and it was time to return home.![]()
Haha yep that was a 35 knots squall that hit us
.
I saw storm front coming at a great rate of knots i had 2 sails rigged 8.5 and 6.8
haha decided on the 6.8 grabed my smaller board ran out to the water while most of the others ducked for cover man it was honking way too much for the 6.8 and rough wow only lasted 10min then it was all over bit of excitment for the day
.
Thanks Justin another great meet![]()
Also thanks MK and Julian for derigging my 8.5 while I was going out
.
ta Vando
haha. was wild.
cheers to everyone for joining in and signing on to the club.
thanks also to kerry and jo for jumping into the new roles administering the club. i really appreciate it.
it was great to kick things off again and catch up with some of the crew i haven't seen since the last meet. was a cruisey day all round. would have liked some more wind but wello's a nice spot to relax.
thanks also to those that also signed up financially to the wanderers even though they are members of other qld clubs. we had a few people ask the question and yes you can financially join Wanderers even if you are already a memeber of another club.
next meet will be the xmas party. at this stage redcliffe has been booked in then after that we will head to the goldy then off to mooloolaba and also burrum heads.
cheers again to all.
