I have pencilled in the 7th February for the next wanderers meet.
On the day we plan to sail from the train to shearwater (approx 5km.)
a stop will occur at wave break island for some flat water blasting, freestyle and a breather.
once arriving at shearwater instead of the usuall bbq, we will head off to one of the local pubs to celebrate.
i am currently seeking permits from MSQ and will need to finalise this prior to the meet eventuating. will let everyone know more specifics asap.
That's selfless of you Ep sacrificing your first born or is it your second?
That's not as good but worthy just the same.
congrats mate and congrats to your wife and family. ![]()
and the name is?
pps. in other news forecast is not looking good.
You could, perhaps, expect predicted wind +30%.
Check yesterday's and today's actual wind speeds v predicted.
I was out yesterday at land's end, powered up on the <ahem> 7.2.
There are some long runs there. Google mapped it, about 1km from sandbank north of wave break to Burrows St.
Yeah, sorry about the sacrifice, Audrey is too cute.
well guys and girls.
officially the downwinder is being postponed. we will look towards next weekend where the forecast may be a little better.
additionally, the permits are not quite over the line as yet.
to be a successfull event for all we need 15knot min wind to make it viable.
if the forecast is once again light next weekend we will come up with an alternative to the downwinder and hold the event regardless.
happy winds
JB
Hi Swoosh,
Saturday is the traditional wanderers day. but remember, valentines day is for boys and girls. ![]()
Saturday the 14th is all go for the next installment of the windwanderers.
Surf FX on the gold coast have once again come on board to sponsor the meet as well as providing a Surf FX voucher (winner to be judged on the day) plus a lucky door prize. The meet will start off at the Train at 12 noon and our intention is to sail to shearwater along the broadwater with a stop at Wavebreak Island and possibly Jenifer Avenue.
The day will finish off at a nearby pub where we can recharge with a quiet ale. (no bbq) ![]()
As the forecast is still variable it is very difficult to know exactly what conditions we will be greeted with on the day.
At this stage it looks more than likely we will have good breezes to make the trip. There is also a small chance that a low developing off the coast may bring extreme winds to the gold coast over the weekend. if this is the case we will reduce the distance and complete the downwinder over a smaller area.
as part of the MSQ approvals which i am expecting this week it is important that all sailors joining in on the day are either members of windwanderers Inc or another windsurfing club that is affiliated with the AWA.
big thanks to Surf FX and hope it blows.
regards Justin.
You calling it in the morning?
"Saturday: NE winds 30/40 knots, easing to 25/30 knots later in the day and
turning NW'ly.
Also can I join on the day?
Also, also how is the car shuffle working? Meet at train and organamise from there?
A north kirra event would be sick for tomorrow Gesty
shame about all the rain though
on the bright side let there be wind [}:)]![]()

hi guys,
there is no problem going the other way. that's the good thing about the broadwater.
but.... and a big but.
i'm not comfortable holding the downwinder in 30+ knots of wind. There are too many risks and we need to remember we are doing this without a boat.
Even though at the broadwater we are sailing along the shoreline the whole way making it suitable for the downwinder, in winds over 25 knots it becomes to risky.
that said.
we have had quite a few meets to date in 25+ winds and a couple in 30-40 knots . they have all been at more appropriate locations, so if the wind is that strong we will still hold the meet but it will be based at the train.
and then at the end of the session we will still be heading to the pub.
the decision will be made at the train tomorrow, idea being to drive 1 car to the finish area and then use that to ferry everyone back at the end.
at the end of the day it's forecast 30-40 knots. AWESOME!!!!!!! ![]()
hi mate,
yes it's on, we will make a decission at the train whether to go the full distance, a shorter distance or stay at the train. depends on conditions.
if the downwinder doesn't happen the meet will be held at the train.
either way we will all meet up at the train.
cheers.
well, what a day and what a forecast.
we hit the train with it raining cats and dogs only to see the wind swing S/SW. that direction creates a huge wind shadow at the train.
we watched a few guys swim their gear back in and then headed north in search of good wind. (by car
)
a couple of guys stopped off at the grand and the rest of us kept going up to shearwater.
i spent the rest of the day with some of the wave guys that had headed to shearwater after currumbin didn't fire.
was well powered on a 5.8m
all and all dissapointing the downwinder didn't happen but great to be on smaller gear again blasting at shearwater.
in an attempt to see the downwinder through it is being rescheduled for 2-3 weeks time.
cheers.
Justin.
