The first one reads: "Stay away from The Train if there is any west in the wind." Why?? And the second advises: "Plus not advisible to head east of the middle sandbank." - Is that because of heavy boating traffic there?
Launch spot for kfc is about 1/2 k north of kfc at the toilets and park. Any westerly normally doesnt work on broadwater as its too sheltered. Sometimes you can sail along the bank between the seaway and seaworld but it has to be a very strong norwest. Drive past seaworld and follow road left to rig on the spit. It can be a great run when working. Soueast or noreast are normally best direction. Always watch tide if sailing near seaway with big sails as tide rips out. Cheers
Just my 5 cents buts its probobly best to launch from near Central Street for the KFC as you will generally find KFC overrun with Kites on windy day. You need to be careful of the depth there as it can be very shallow. High tide in fairly bumpy as there is a large sand bank. At mid-low tide this is exposed and you can sail up and down in a SE/NE.
GC is a difficult place to sail in a SW\W, I've only sailed it from the spit over by Seaworld (but its not for the faint heart if you end up in the seaway and very gusty). Wellington Point is pretty much the best spot in SW/W
Hi Aomame, were you sailing from the caravan park? Yesterday I was sailing at Central street just North of KFC in the channel that runs towards Seaworld and saw a light colured sail meandering thru the moored boats. Central Street is a bit nicer to rig in a northerly as there is more shade. There are usually a few of us there when it is blowing and in desperation when it's not .
