Is anyone hitting up wa over Christmas holidays
I have the luxury of having 5weeks off and was wondering if anyone I know,
Is going or wants to come?

Will be spending most my days at coronation beach, before okaji starts construction,
But defiantly will be visiting gnaraloo and the lancelin ocean classic over my stay.

Defiantly worth considering swoosh

Heading over there with my bro late this fri....

Will get to Geraldton by early sat afternoon... Forecast looks sick!

Gnaraloo by early sunday.... 8 days hopefully gettin some decent wind n waves...

First time there.. Cant wait!!!!

One question to those who have been, if you weighed around 92 and rode a 91ltr fsw, would you bother taking over a 6.1? Other sails are 5.4 and 4.5, which of course are definitely going.

I'm in 2 minds whether or not to take it????

It depends, do you want to sail every day possible? if so might as well take it. Personally I would leave it as the days you might use it become good rest days if you get a good run.

Beg, borrow, steal a smaller board. Something around 80-85lt, you will enjoy it so much more in windy conditions than the 91.

hmmmmm.....

dont think it will be possible to find a smaller board so will have to do with what I've got.... I should be right.... I hope!

I'm thinking of ditchin the 6.1 and throwin in the surf board....

so many decisions!!!!!

I live by the moto, take and not need it, rather than not take it and need it. It will take little more space to carry, unless it requires new mast, boom etc. But that is me. I hate sitting on the beach waiting for wind, especially when I have the kit to get me going.

awesome moto DAM71... My 6.1 riggs on the same mast (RDM x9 400) as my 5.4 and 4.5 so it would just be the sail that is needed......

I'll make a decision over the next few days (watching the forecast closely!!!).......

Ah bugger, I'll just miss ya. I'm going from 17 Dec through to 23 Jan. I've got my own camper ready to go aswell. I'm hoping to be able learn to loop in my time there.

But no haven't been out much, the first 3 months were ****ed, i didn't have any spare time at all. It's only easing up now, I'll soon have time to get out on the water every afternoon. As we finish every day at 1. I went to inverlock the other day at consistent 25knots and learnt that I would prefer to do wave sailing. As dead calm water with blasting winds just didn't do it for me, however I did learn how to do a grubby

What date is burrem? Defiantly want to catch up some time.

Hey well I have 5 days off between the 12th and the 16th of January. I checked flight details, I can fly into perth 12th arriving at 11pm, then fly out at 4:45pm on the 16th... that gives us at least 3 full days of sailing. You just need to pick me up haha, and we can just chill at lancelin?

I'll chip in for camper hire etc if you are keen.

Not sure when burrum is, I'm a bit to lazy to get up there to be honest

message me your phone number, new phone and i don't have it anymore.

I think about heading to WA in early february. Anybody else going then? I don't have a camper over there. Anybody happy to share a hired van?

And which airline do you fly with? It doesn't seem to be that easy to travel around AUS with windsurfing equipment. Virgin Blue might be an option, when I take my normal stuff as hand luggage.

Just got back from first trip over there and WOW, theres like a whole other world of windsurfing over there that just doesn't exist in QLD.

If you haven't been to coronation beach yet, you need to book yourself a ticket and go NOW.

Went from only ever having attempted a handful of backloops in my past 3 years (****ty qld conditions) of sailing to full rotating and almost landing at least a handful(rig keeps getting ripped out of my hands on landing, gotta sheet out) in 2 days. Probably had over 50 attempts, overrotated a fair few, bailed from some massive attempts, and got bruises to prove it, it was amazing.

got 3 days of 20-25kts cross on, with perfect ramps and beautiful flat water in between meant you could easily get 2-3 jumps in every run out. Would have stayed longer but other commitments unfortunately got in the way.

Not to mention the abundance of awesome sailors over there from a heap of severne team guys ripping it up, a pwa freestylers and others busting pretty much every move in the book. Perfect inspiration to go hard. Was windsurfing nirvana.

Got another 2 weeks booked in end of the month, its gonna be EPIC

hey guys,

Yeah me and my bro had an increadable time in WA... The only problem was that we weren't there long enough (11 days)... I thought I would do a quick debreif of our trip (a little like swoosh) just to give you a run down of what we got up to...

Our plan was to spend 2 days driving to gnaraloo have a week there and then spend the last 2 slowly driving back down to perth...

Our first windsurfing spot we stopped at on our way up was at the lighthouse in gero.... Awesome sailing spot.... Awesome wave riding with reefs both up and down wind... take your pick really...

Next day we headed straight for gnaraloo (and decided to pass coronation beach, but we came back!! ).... After a leaking radiator, a flat tyre and various other noises coming from our van we pushed thru and arrived there later that afternoon... wasnt muich wind around so just set up camp and waited for the next day...

The next few days was epic.... swell was a little small but with 25+knots cross-off made the riding decent..... beautiful spot.... crystal clear waters with barron dessert landscape made the sailing all that better... you'll also meet heaps of great people up there.... Anyway, like I said, we were planning on staying there for a week but the cyclone from the christmas island tradegy was coming our way and it completely messed up the wind and swell direction.... so we decided to get out, and luckily we did as 24hrs after passing thru carnavon it was 2m under water....

This was when we thought we should stop in and check out coronations and to strengthen what swoosh said, it is an awesome wave jumping spot.... small lagoon leading out into ramps EVERYWHERE..... WE had a great afternoon there but unfortunately had to push further south to run away from the cyclone heading south....

Next stop was lancelin.... Lancelin was OK... Its major downfall is that there usually isnt much swell that rolls in (thats what trhe locals tell me anyway).... Its still a great spot to sail but if your after wave riding/jumping then there is bigger and better spots like the ones mentioned above.

Again we had to push further south to escape the ****ty wind, swell and clouds.... After the rubbish summer we have had in SE QLD we were also after SUN!!!!!

We decided to drive all the way down to margaret rive (about 2.5 hrs south of perth) to hopefully get some better conditions, and we did!!! The swell was still small but there was wind and sun about so we didnt really care.... Our last few days were spent testing out the margaret river mouth and even tho I'm sure it can get alot bigger and stronger, we had a ball of a time... Nice waves to ride, but gotta be careful of the reefs as some surfers found out the hard way!!! haha

Overall the cyclone pushed us to explore more windsurfing spots than we had planned but I'm glad we did it... Would still love to have a solid week at gnaraloo as I would love the test of getting thru 7 days of 20+knots with some 5-6 ft swell... Will def be back end of this year for more action!!!

One note to all - Before I went I was nervious about PORT tack jumpoing as I had never needed to worry about it... I've always sailed STARBOARD tack.... If you can jump comfortably and controlled on SB tack you should have no worries on PORT tack....

Looks like you guys scored awesome conditions mucksy, it really is epic over there. Hopefully will get to both gnaraloo and margaret river on my next trip over, they look great in your photos and I don't mind the small swell being pretty new to the whole wavesailing thing. I want to check out esperance as well if possible.

scott: www.seabreeze.com.au/graphs/wa3.asp look at that forecast mate! better book those tickets quick!

Moving to WA is starting to look like a serious option.

To my defence that bruise was just from 1 bad landing....

Just didnt commit and ate poo!!! I was complaining to my bro for a day and a half before he said ' dude, where the hell did you say your back was hurting coz ya got a hellova bruise!!!!'

Esperance would be awesome but its a LONG way from gnaraloo!!!!!! that would be a road trip! we ended up doing about 3100kms in 11 days.... I wouldnt want to do much more
