hey guys,
Yeah me and my bro had an increadable time in WA... The only problem was that we weren't there long enough (11 days)... I thought I would do a quick debreif of our trip (a little like swoosh) just to give you a run down of what we got up to...
Our plan was to spend 2 days driving to gnaraloo have a week there and then spend the last 2 slowly driving back down to perth...
Our first windsurfing spot we stopped at on our way up was at the lighthouse in gero.... Awesome sailing spot.... Awesome wave riding with reefs both up and down wind... take your pick really...
Next day we headed straight for gnaraloo (and decided to pass coronation beach, but we came back!!

).... After a leaking radiator, a flat tyre and various other noises coming from our van we pushed thru and arrived there later that afternoon... wasnt muich wind around so just set up camp and waited for the next day...
The next few days was epic.... swell was a little small but with 25+knots cross-off made the riding decent..... beautiful spot.... crystal clear waters with barron dessert landscape made the sailing all that better... you'll also meet heaps of great people up there.... Anyway, like I said, we were planning on staying there for a week but the cyclone from the christmas island tradegy was coming our way and it completely messed up the wind and swell direction.... so we decided to get out, and luckily we did as 24hrs after passing thru carnavon it was 2m under water....
This was when we thought we should stop in and check out coronations and to strengthen what swoosh said, it is an awesome wave jumping spot.... small lagoon leading out into ramps EVERYWHERE..... WE had a great afternoon there but unfortunately had to push further south to run away from the cyclone heading south....
Next stop was lancelin.... Lancelin was OK... Its major downfall is that there usually isnt much swell that rolls in (thats what trhe locals tell me anyway).... Its still a great spot to sail but if your after wave riding/jumping then there is bigger and better spots like the ones mentioned above.
Again we had to push further south to escape the ****ty wind, swell and clouds.... After the rubbish summer we have had in SE QLD we were also after SUN!!!!!

We decided to drive all the way down to margaret rive (about 2.5 hrs south of perth) to hopefully get some better conditions, and we did!!! The swell was still small but there was wind and sun about so we didnt really care.... Our last few days were spent testing out the margaret river mouth and even tho I'm sure it can get alot bigger and stronger, we had a ball of a time... Nice waves to ride, but gotta be careful of the reefs as some surfers found out the hard way!!! haha
Overall the cyclone pushed us to explore more windsurfing spots than we had planned but I'm glad we did it... Would still love to have a solid week at gnaraloo as I would love the test of getting thru 7 days of 20+knots with some 5-6 ft swell... Will def be back end of this year for more action!!!
One note to all - Before I went I was nervious about PORT tack jumpoing as I had never needed to worry about it... I've always sailed STARBOARD tack.... If you can jump comfortably and controlled on SB tack you should have no worries on PORT tack....
