Hi I am going to QLD in a couple of weeks and staying at the gold coast what good spots are there around for speed and slalom sailing. I will bring my formula gear as well just in case no wind and need a windsurfing fix.
Hoping to get some speed sailing at Wellington point with the locals but not sure what wind direction to sail there and how you guys communicate where you will be sailing.
What other spots work in different directions around the gold coast.
Cheers
hi byron.
wello works in all wind directions.
westerly through toNE sail west side of thpoint.
all other wind sail east side.
if there is wind people will be there.
You might already know but just in case you do realise that Wellington point isn't on the Gold Coast. It's around a 1 hour drive away.
Thanks I know we'll is around 1 hr but if windy enough for speed sailing its worth it.
What directions get the best speed there
Does any one still sail southport I remember from years ago it was ok in se. Or is there some where else close to surfers that people sail
Hi byron hopefully we will get some wind tom, tide be good at wello most of the day with the bank being good around 2ish.
Forecast are all over the place so fingers crossed.
Come and say gday if you get to wello
.
For speed sailing you need a north to north easter and a mid (or 2/3) to low tide so the bank is out of the water.
Unless the wind is strong, on weekends and holidays you have lots of kites around. In that case you can sail over to Lota Ck. It works in the same conditions.
Thanks looking forward to catching up in a couple of weeks
What is the most common wind direction this time of year is it se and if so what's it like
mainly NE up till christmas, then SE become more regular. you can still get NE through to end of march but not as regular as SE
Christmas/January are hit and miss for wind in QLD, and you may be better off staying in the southern parts of aus
