Big work day yesterday, got to watch the chart, but that's all.
But, finish at 1pm today, so am keen to get wet. I'm thinking the tide is worn for Shearwater, but I'm happy to be corrected if I'm wrong.
So maybe KFC ??
Anyone got plans, preferences or advice ??
I'm looking out the window about 100m north of KFC on Marine Pde and it's currently blowing between 12-18knots depending on the gusts - better than yesterday.
damn i missed the best of it again. just when i needed to leave VP started pumping! wasn't bad when i was there but was gusty at 10-20 knots.
once the tide dropped it came in solid and lifted to 18-22......
lesson learned is sail VP at high tide, or low tide and never mid tide unless it's really pumping.
yeah, don't waste your time at the train in winter. there can be 15 knots difference between there and the shearwater. if shearwater no good due to current direction, go to the grand
many of us migrate to wello for winter as it's westerlies are better than anything on the gcoast
i don't think it's got any worse, it's just that we've realised there are better places in winter and in due southerlies ![]()
Flat out at the grand not jet skis little traffic lots of totty walking up and down, beer afterwards great day for this time of year 10/10 from me!!!
Grand Hotel, Charis seafood, Deep water point apartments Marine parade around that area but the best bit in a southerly, not SW or SE is straight out to were the ......................someone smarter than me will post a Google earth map or something!
Unexpected early finish for me today, so got an unexpected sail
Had an OK session at Shearwater, planing mostly on a 6.2.
No beer or tottie though, so only a 6/10.
Fussy bastid, I know.
Traffic was murder coming home though. Sheesh !!
Just looked at the actuals chart. No idea where they measure it, but no way was it that strong.
26 kts on a 6.2 should have beaten me down, but at best I was comfortably powered. Spent way too much time grovelling between gusts to find those readings convincing.
i take about 7-8 knots off what the seaway says and that's about what you get sailing shearwater in a S or train in a NE
