Hi all,
I am only 60kg. I know basic gybe, fast tack and beach start. I am now looking for a intermediate board to progress my gybing and start planing. Should I go for 110, 120 or 130 litre boards?

hi WD.

There are quite a few sailors around the 70kg weight who are doing okay with 100litre boards and 5.7m sails as "their big gear"

IMHO - Unless you intend to use the board with a sail larger than 7m and wish to sail on very light wind days, I'd say you could easily move to boards 90 - 110 litres. You sound like your past the need for very floaty boards.

I weigh 60 kgs and have a 115litre that I use when its around the 10-12 kn range , i use a 93 l freestyle wave the rest of the time but would like a 70l for when its above 20kn .

I think if you go with the 110 you may find it a little harder up front but will have better use for it later as you progress. Where as the 130 will be easer up front but as you progress you may find that it will start to feel like the queen marry and you will want to get rid of it .

If you wish to head to the GC your more than welcome to have a go on my 115 tabou to see how it goes .

HAricut is correct the smallest sail I use on the 115 is a 6.4m and I consider that set up as my light wind big gear .

agree start with 110L
I have 130L as my biggest board and its feel huge, but I am 85 kg.
So 110L will remain you biggest board soon, then you move to smaller again.

But in fact you should be on 92L and 5.7 to 6.2 meter sail.
After first few frustrating sessions you will be sailing naturally.

It will force you also to learn water start which possibly the most important skill and you need to learn it fast.

Thank you for all the replies especially ggh kind offer. Thank you ggh!

I am planning to use 6-7m sails --- don't know how the size of sails affects what litre of board should be used.
