I got a new fin, it's a tuttlebox fin, but the board has a deep tuttlebox finbox. It seems to fit okay, and I got some new bolts, so it seems to be held in okay as well. Sits a bit further in the board on the front (maybe a mm or two) but otherwise seems to hold on okay. Is it a terrible idea to sail with it? It's not really wobbly or anything otherwise curious.
You should be ok using a normal tuttle fin in a deep tuttle box (... although one could argue that the board has deep hole for a reason...).
It does sound like you might need a little bit of "tin-can shim" on the front edge of the fin though.
Tuttle fin in deep tuttle box works fine, but if you hit something hard like a turtle or a log, you can destroy the fin and do serious damage to the box. Been there done that.![]()
P.S. You can have a bit of fun removing the fin in that case as well.
Sweet, thanks for your help, advice and stories. Def gonna try this one out on the water now, rather than just putting it in the board in the garage and tapping it and gonig... "hmmmmm", in a contemplative and uncertain longing manner. :P
