Can anyone in Townsville advise if I should bring big or small gear up at Christmas? Also there has been news of a lot of j fish lately, is anyone sailing there at the mpment?
Hey scot.
Just take a stubby cooler.
Or if you want to go fishing come up to cairns between christmas and new year - I'll be home with the family. And i hear the reef will be open - hope so am suffering coral trout deficiency since the folks took up the great grey nomad thing and started driving round the country 2 or 3 times.
Summer in FNQ = jelly fish. And they scare the crap outta me more than the sharks you always see
Personally I wouldn't bother with anything. Summer winds in Far north are minimal, which is why it is good fishing weather. Winter is trade winds season.
D
Scot, a couple of years ago I spent christmas on Magnetic island.
My advice, get into Scuba diving. We got no more than about 8 to 10 knots for the full week up there, so I managed to get a lot of diving in along with being a general menace on a moped.
Thanks for the advice guys. We arived in Townsville yesterday but there doesn't seem to be a lot of breeze around. There was a bit of wind about on the way up (could have been the savory mince breakfast??) but the schedule didn't allow for any time on the water.
Might get a run on the way home if we are lucky. I hope the winds have kept up down there for some awesome Christmas stocking sailing.
Cheers,
