how about woorim at bribie? it would be dead onshore so you could blast paralell to the beach towards caloundra, grab a bit of airtime on the odd wave.

I'm thinking. Queen's is too onshore in ENE - you can't get out past the reef. I was thinking maybe Suttons and run up an down in front of Margate but I'm unsure about the reefs out from there. There's also Spot Z (shush) but again not sure about outlying reefs at low tide...

I guess you'd saw wello would be a good spot but it's low tide and I still haven't got all the mud out of my ears from the last time I sailed there (about 6 months)

i've only sailed suttons on an E or ESE so not sure about ENE but it's very nice,

you blast along parallel to the shore. if it's lowish tide you will see the boomies because of whitecaps.

important thing is to sail paralell to the shore. if you sail out from suttons square tothe wind in a NE breeze you will most likely hit the reef.

Reef out from Suttons? Would it be somewhere in this shot or further out? I don't remember any reef straight out from there. Been past a million times in dinghies but never windsurfed there.

I see, yeah there are a few of those about closer to shore which I always stayed clear of in boats. I tend to forget when looking at maps how limited a windsurfers ability to sail to windward is. Hangover from boat sailing where you can go 45 degrees or more.

Re Suttons, I think it's more to do with parking, kids everywhere, beach volleyballers etc. Suttons is a busy beach. Queens is very low key and has a natural amphitheater quality.

I guess I'll drive up to Redcliffe an check out a few places. Seems like the southern end of the bay has been getting the wind lately though.

the reef is in the middle of your image running SE closer to the shore. the dark patch. in a NE wind you would sail straight over it from suttons which is bad. in a SE wind you sail out towards the point near the surf club.

i can't believe you redcliffe guys don't sail suttons. it's a quality spot.

Hi Justin sorry but can't resist the gybe, queens is way better than suttons, reasonably flat water inside the reef for getting a good run upto the sometimes almost vertical ramps from the swell breaking over the one or two bommies out there just nort of the end of the reef that pokes right out at low tide. one day you will wake up and see the light, we will convert you

also, i tried sailing in a ne at suttons 10 yrs ago when we first came down here, rigged up in the car park adjacent to lifesavers and sailed out of that pocket port tack away from the beach towards the port of bne ,there was a slight wind shadow from the point but not much, by that time i was really struggling with fitness but there were a couple of others out having a ball, the reef in question didn,t appear to be a problem, wind was 25/30+, although havent seen anyone there since and i tend to follow the local crew, it might be worth a shot if anyone is hitting the water tom.

yes you would miss the reef if you rig up at the surf club but everyone usually rigs up further south which puts them on a collision course with the reef in a NE'r [}:)]

you can't convince me otherwise when it's a SE'r. i've got one word

By far the best place in Brisbane in a NE is at the mouth of the Cabbage Tree Creek at Shorncliffe . That video of Suttons is just slop , Go to the mouth of the Creek next time theres a 25/30 kt NE'er with a full outgoing tide and you'll see what waves are. plenty of parking , nice grass , toilets ,shop ,and no rocks or reefs between the mouth of the creek and port of Brisbane...
just don't sail in the creek ( it's banned )
