Hi guys, as we had a North Easterly over the weekend I sailed the bank was was forced to jibe at the Southern Corner because of the Jet Skis .
After an email to Waterways and a reply from Greg Turner I learned that in Northerly Conditions that the operator had agreed to move the hirers South 100m and that he agreed to a 100m separation between sailcraft and jetskis.
As I am only a weekend sailor we need sailors to be vigilant and to complain in writing or nothing will be done. Apathy will get us nowhere and we will lose one of our last bastions.
Greg Turner appears reasonable and approachable , so I reiterate don't be apathetic.
Cheers.
Nick
yeah i hear you !
at loaders creek we try not to sail /kite thru them
but it cant be helped
the bouys are dangerous for crashing kiters
but on the + as i got blown onto the jet ski barge thing ,
they gave me a lift to shore ![]()
Greg Turner always listens but sits on the fence, i have had issues with the jet ski school that launch from the Southport Swimming pool and believe these riders get next to nothing in instructions. This has been a quiet season in general but especially with NEs so the ongoing problem hasnt been highlighted. They get away with it by saying they are giving lessons, its just a farce, if you need a license to ride a jet ski you need a license or someone with a license on the back in my opinion.
ARE ANY OF THESE GUYS REALLY MAKING ANY MONEY? I SUSPECT TO MANY JETSKI SCHOOLS AND NOT ENOUGH TOURISTS!
the japanese tourists love it. the poor folk must have a very restricted leisure life at home to want to ride those broadwater jetskis
didn't someone say 2 years ago that the blue buoy closest to the sandbar was supposed to be moved more to the south? not sure if anyone noticed but the riders were going in all directions there at one stage
the jet-ski operators at loders creek end seem to be a reasonable bunch of guys and more organised, and in turn feel a bit more motivated to cooperate with them
