Sandgate is jam packed with those jellies, my legs are red raw from sundays session, put on a full wettie today just to save the legs.
More incentive for not dropping those gybes out the back
Does putting on extra blockout help?
Remember years ago they seemed to affect some people but not others.
PS was a good sail this afternoon ![]()
Richie,
They've all swum down from Yeppoon. We've had the most Snotties* I've ever seen in the water for the past 3 months but I noticed last Weekend that numbers are starting to reduce. A Marine specialist was saying that the floods flushed out a mass of juvenile jellies earlier this year and what we're seeing is them all grown up. Fun sailing through a smack** of them at speed too.
*those big harmless ones that only give a really slight tingle
** Collective noun for jellyfish - I reckon a "wobble" would be more appropriate though.
Was out on the Goldie yesterday, nothing bit of seagrass floating around but with all these Northerlies its only a matter of time
I love my NEasters but those little nasties take the fun out of it a bit. They seem to be surrounded by little bits if bities so even if you don't hit a jellyfish you still get bitten randomly all over.
Someone told me it is little bits of poisonous tenticles that break off and float around in the water. A few years back a whole heap of them went into my rashie and they stung like hell and then itched for two weeks after.
Pity bull sharks don't eat them...
PS: Looking good for this arvo, can we have a wind and jelly report at around 1.00pm Richie???
While you are awaiting your regular forecaster I can tell you its a solid 18knts + (1pm) at Thorneside, looks a touch windier at Manly, few already out.
Sailed at Wynnum last 2 days and seaweed was a big problem yesterday. Scott, wind appears to be much stronger today than on Sunday. Yesterday was marginal and only day this week that Seabreeze got the forecast correct.
I think they are talking flat water wet willy. My suggestion is don't fall in! It is windsurfing not wind swimming
haven't experienced any off the open beaches, the occasional blue bottle washed up on the beach is about it.
Haven't seen any down here on the Goldy or when we were at Lennox on the weekend.
Saw quite a few Blue bottles up on the Sunny coast when I was there a couple of weeks ago - I hate those things, especially bad when they wrap all around your boom! ![]()
Was awesome at Manly this arvo. Big ramps and minimal jf's. 5.4 fully lit, just the way to end a Tuesday.
