Hey, i'm Niklas - Going to a homestay in Hervey Bay for 5 months next year.
I'm very interested in Windsurfing, so i wonder if it's anygood to surf in Hervey Bay or any place near? Is the wind conditions okay, waves, sharks :/ etc?

It could be awesome with some feedback, maybe by surfers in Hervey Bay. Any clubs or communities? So i won't drop by with all of my gear, and only able to watch it in the garage...

G'day mate,

Plenty of good windsurfing in Hervey Bay when the wind and tide line up.
No ocean swell gets past Fraser Island so we don't get real wave surfing but there is plenty of big rolling wind swells if you know where to sail.

Send me a message when you arrive and I'll show you the sailing locations.

Sound like you might be an an exchange student, will you have transport for your gear?

By the way we have sharks but they don't bite.

Scott.

Cool, thanks mate !
Yes, i'm an exchancge student from denmark - the homestay is July till December 09'..
Do you think it would be any good to take the gear with the airplane or just buy some when I arrive? I mean it's expensive and the airportstaff doesn't always take good care of the gear.

It could be really cool to have a tour, and be introduced to the beaches.

Anyway, i'm also thinking about trying the wave surfing, without sail. But I guess that would be a longer trip to some beach outside the bay?

Hi Niklas

I have been living in Hervey Bay for past year, great place for windsurfing. Generally flat water blasting but with the northerlies we get small waves, sorry i mean chop.

Probably nearest place for surf is Rainbow Beach, about 1.5 hours south.

Leave your wet suit behind its a lot warmer than the North Sea,i may use a shortie in the winter but you have to fall in to cool down

Hey All,

The annual holiday to Herey Bay is on again. Will be in the bay from Boxing day until about the 2nd.

Will be keen for a sail at any of the local spots.

Good sailing.

Nice video ! Footage taken in Hervey Bay ?

Man, it really sucks to be in Denmark right now , i've got vacation . And the wind has been awesome the last few days.. But guess what?! The weather is so damn cold you would almost die if you went surfing. But then again, it's not cold enough to be snowing, and even it began to snow there could be no skiing because Denmark have no mountains.

I am so jealous of you guys ! -

By the way ; Merry Christmas ! :D

You get presents the 24th in the evening or 25th in the morning ?
