I was out from Wello and sailed across to Manly several times - wall to wall jellies and wind that refused to be even rmotely consistant.. I was on the marginal side with only a 6.6 up but the wind was everything from fully powered to fully drifting!!!

I went out at Wello too to avoid the Manly jellies. Got out at 12pm, wind finally came in at 4.30pm.

I thought I could see the white caps at Manly. I wrongly assumed they were heading my way

Thought I'd get away from the jellies, got stung one to many times last week. Headed to golden beach for the afternoon . Was over powered on the 6.4 &102 but great fun, really nice and flat between the sandbanks awesome for carving . Really good bunch of local windsurfers up there.

Hey Lee1972, how flat is the water at Golden Beach? A few of us are looking to take a day trip there (All beginners to intermediate).

Sailed my raceboard with a 8.5 for 3 hrs from 1.30. Epic afternoon. The jellies are really bad. I got sting on the face after falling in gybing.

Agreed, some funny wind yesterday. 5.7 and 100 litres were probably a really bad choice.

Still had some great runs. Nothing better in 36C than to go for a blast.

Thanks Clive, a little older and none the wiser!! Sounds like Caloundra had a stronger more consistent wind then the bay for a change.

Well, an hour either side of high tide is best as the current can be quite strong. When the tide is running I find it best to sail out to the right hand sand bank ( directly facing out from golden beach main car park ) and sail between the opposite sand bank. Be carefull at low tide as its easy to hit them ( we've all done it ) for practicing light wind sailing got to the right hand bank as there is a natural large shallow area where it isn't effected by the current as much. Wind, anything coming from the south - 5 knots atleast of the graph anything from the north is usually right on the money.
Oh sorry, in answer to your question From the beach the first 100mtrs can be choppy after that it's butter smooth (depending on tide and wind direction) flatter than beachmere.

lee,

next time you're going to the pond, keep driving until you hit mooloolaba. unless there is a cyclone around it's pretty much flat.

it leaves the pond for dead. numerous times i've gone to the pond where the wind is average. continued to mooloolaba and it's 5-10 knots more.

no current, no banks, etc.

Where do you launch from? I've driven up there a few times for a look but never sailed.

if it's a northerly park at urunga esplanade and sail towards the rock wall.

if it's a nor easter park at the end of parkyn parade and sail towards alex parallel to the shore. best to point heading out or you'll hit the shore on the other side near where the surf flags are sometimes.

parking can be an issue but if it's windy people usually clear out.

it's been a few year since i've sailed there but would be keen at some point to do it again. it used to be the spot we all headed to.
