Has anyone been out in the bay, around Manly since the floods. I am quite tempted but wandered if there is a multitude of flotsam and jetsam (sp?) in the bay that could cause damage to kit/me.

might give it a miss then. I heard a load of sewage was dumped directly into the river. Does all this tuff increase the risk of sharks as well? I'll leave it till tomorrow I recon....

the trick to learning howw to not get attacked by sharks is to not fall off lol but they would probably get sick if they went in the water so they might move out to sea somewhere

had a look at Queens beach, the smell of fresh or brackish water is so strong.
Some kiters out, did'nt risk going out, could see branches and crap even from the beach, doesnt take much to break a big fin

Just got back from VP. Very dirty water but surprising very little rubbish/logs.
Not a lot of wind though apart from the odd gust to get your hopes up...... But good to get wet after a lay off due to injury.
Cheers

I think I'll give Manly a go tomorrow if the wind picks up. I'll have to watch out for the riverside walkway!

I been working in areas flooded, the water stinks already. I would not be sailing anywhere with direct flow out of the river due to debris and water quality.

Wishful thinking about the sharks, bullsharks will be everywhere. Others will probably be roaming the areas at the edge of the fresh picking off what they can. That is what they are made to do and are perfectly designed for it, you would just be another thing (putting out the right signals) floating in the water for them. Many species of shark are known to frequent fresh water to rid themselves of parasites so fresh wont worry them too much. In other areas of the world where flooded rivers run over shallow waters this is the time when you see packs of sharks at river mouths and estuaries.

Maybe it's time to put the boards away for a bit and help your extended neighbours, even if you are not affected personally so many businesses, services and employees of those that you use will be affected.

Maybe they can position the river walk at the end of the sand spit at Wello and make it a truly exceptional speed strip.

Paddled out on the SUP at Sutton's Redcliffe late this afternoon. Nice breeze. The water is choc a block full of debris - some of it pretty substantial. Kiters would be OK - anyone with a decent fin could be in all sorts of trouble. Hopefully the weekend will be OK.

Perhaps a trip to the GC is in order. Been a while since I've sailed the train or sheerwater, have also heard it is good on the outside behind the spit? Have to check that out, anyone got the low down there?
