Here's a map I almost forgot about.

Shearwater at Runaway Bay and The Train at Southport are the most popular flat water locations.

SurfFX is the only windsurfing shop on the Gold Coast, however they have a lot of stock, experience and advice.

Also the Buy & Sell section on this website:

I was chatting with haircut yesterday about the slowly but surely growing number of windsurfers on the coast. We often outnumber the kites at Shearwater now. Yes really.

Shearwater. The tide will even be right for the ones that worry about that

I agree I think windsurfing is starting to grow again. I,m one of the guys who has come back to the sport after a prolonged break. Kicking myself I wasted all those years not sailing. Now my kids are discovering the sport. Being interested in RSX I found this bit of info the other day, I think its a good indication that windsurfing is alive and well and not just at shearwater'

From the RSX Website

"More than 65 nations on six continents compete in Olympic windsurfing. At the 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships, that took place in Perth, Australia last December, more nations participated in the RS:X Men's event than in any other event raced there."

Yeah, but I wouldn't recommend Shearwater for a beginner, even if the chop cleans up into nice ramps and the boats go away when it's 25+ and the tide is 5kn + . And now there's a big shark.

Southport at KFC I reckon is the best for a beginner. I think that there will be some tide with wind this weekend, so perhaps The Train which is about 200m South.

www.google.com:443/maps?q=north+street,+southport,+qld,+austraila&hl=en&ll=-27.959742,153.412657&spn=0.006814,0.011115&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=49.624204,91.054688&hnear=North+St,+Southport+Queensland+4215,+Australia&t=m&z=17

Had my first sail at The Train in years the other afternoon in a SE. It's still good, although there are a lot of boats parked there at the moment.

He was always there (along with his mates), you do know that don't you?

And of course it would be crazy to think that this shark couldn't swim up to KFC.

Speaking of Sharks, I was told about a doco that was on recently where they strapped a camera to the back of a shark in Sydney. the doco is still available via iView, I just haven't had time to take a look yet.
