Coming down from the Sunshine Coast for the W/E
Anywhere on the Gold Coast worth sailing in a decent south westerly?

Shearwater should be good on Sunday by the looks of it and i can't believe i won't be there. Earlier than that maybe try Wellington Point when there's more west in it

Only problem will be the tide is coming in when the wind should be at it's best. ie the morning. That means the tide and wind will be going in the same direction in the channel which isn't ideal at Shearwater but i would go out anyway if i was going to be here.

the grand at labrador is ok in a ssw incoming tide - crappy rigging area, but flat fast sailing, the train isnt much good in a sw/ssw shadowed by too many big buildings - the grand is far enough away from southport and the buildings there seem to funnel the SSW a bit. The forcast almost goes S on sunday - must get a sail in at some point friday to sun??

^ Agreed with The Grand. Was just looking at this on the map.

For anyone not familiar:

Might even be easier to rig and sail from The Spit, on the western side?

I have tried the Spit in a westerly to save the drive to Wello and it was ok sailing wise but EVERYTHING got covered in sand because even the grassier areas are still sandy

there is a nice video on here somewhere of haircut sailing off there in a westerly - I have rigged at seaworld carpark in westerly - I love a westerly - epic long runs along sand banks on chrystal clear winter water - I remember one day certain I was going to touch the fin & that it was 30cm deep, hoping off into chest deep water - but it is so rare that they are sailable - so variable 35knt one minte 5 the next. but the forcast is for SSW isnt it? it is more reliable - there is a bit of west out there now actually

Yes. SSW.

I thought that if driving from the South would be easier to park and rig and launch from The Spit, rather than The Grand.
