Can someone refer me to a link for a definition of the Slalom Class. I've had a look on the Qld and Aust website but can find anything that refers to a definition of equipment requirements.

"ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY

The event is open to all boards that race in the 'Slalom' and 'formula' formats. " ???

The Qld windsurfing site also has a "Freeride" division. Does this refer to normal freeride boards that don't fit into the slalom class? I understand there is also a 8.0 metre sail restriction as well.

Thanks

No link but essentially in QLD-

Slalom Class (Open): Max board width 85cm, Max sail size 10.0m. No restriction on number of boards/sails used. Wind average on start is min. 8 knots (I think). No limit on fins. Across/down wind racing mostly figure of 8.

Freeride Class: I think this will be changed a bit next season to max 8.0m sail and 80cm wide board. If you want to have a go racing this is where you start. Everything else same as slalom, the fleets normally start at same time and sail the same course. Slalom boards and sails can be used in this class provided they do not exceed size restrictions. This class is for freeride sailors, new comers to racing and those that want to race in slightly higher wind limits.

Formula Class: Boards over 85cm but normally 1m wide (1050mm max I think). Max sail size 12.5m, in a regatta limit of 1 board and 3 sails only can be registered. Sean (SeanAUS120) can confirm all this if you interested. Courses are upwind/downwind yacht style courses.

Most of the racing here is Slalom/Freeride class.

Hi Daneli,

Under the ISAF, Slalom is the funboard class governed by IFCA rules. The current hull restrictions are as MK mentioned 85 cm wide max, 10m sail and fin of no more than 60cm.

In qld we have run open and freeride classes for the last few seasons. The classes were the same just named differently to separate the guns from us normal folk learning to race. Next season we will change the classes the open will remain the same, but we are planning a slalom 88 concept which will restrict the board to 80cm and the sail to 8m. This will still be a very competitive class as it caters for the guys that do not want to buy bigger gear. We are also going to try for a novice class - which will be open to all gear. This will be an easier racing format, and is designed for people interested in trying slalom racing.

WQ runs a 10 knot minimum wind limit for all classes.

Trust this helps
