Hi all. Round one of the 2010/2011 bayside sailboard club slalom championships is to be held this sunday at Manly. As there has been little wind to date, i expect a lot of cobwebs on the slalom gear and some hotly contested duels at the pin.![]()
Now the housework, to compete you must be a full member with a WQ affiliated club. To actually get points in the Bayside championships you must be a member of Bayside sailboard club. You will be able to take out memberships on the day, or you can visit www.baysidesailboards.com.au and follow the link to the join page.
Fees will be the same as last year $10 for club members, $15 for non club members.
If you have changed fleets since last year or if this is your first year you will need a new club rashie, so budget $30 for this. Colours remain the same, Red for open, Blue for Slalom 88 and White for freeride & rookie.
Registration will close at 1 pm, so if you have to attend to any of the above, please allow some time beforehand.
That about covers it, look forward to some hot racing, and the usual catastrophies at the jibe mark![]()

It is correct as stated. Non-members can compete & place its just they will not accrue points towards bayside's championships. This does not affect state slalom or speed titles.
Makes sense- to get a trophey in a CLUB championship you have to be a member of the club, doesnt matter what activity you do there it's all the same.
and again MK,
club memberships are reciprocal as was agreed with WQ a few back.
one things for sure. when people whom are not members of the wanderers come to the meets we don't ask them to pay for their sausage and conversation.
It is reciprocal in that members of other clubs can come along- compete, place, be covered by insurance, enjoy a sausage & some conversation.
This is not a conspiracy, it is not targeting any one- it was clarified with the one sailor we are aware it affects but it seems he is not competing in either slalom or speed this year anyway. As Richie said the more the merrier- I don't want to see anyone not compete and it would be great to see you come along and have a bash at slalom & speed... no one is excluded there even with freestyle/wave/freeride gear as there is a class specifically for it.
Hey Gestie are you still mailing out wanderers event notification, it seems I didn't get it? I'm not on here much anymore & now that im not working weekends I might try to make a few more wanderers meets if the forecast is good for that area ![]()
whatever mk,
you're just playing semantics. the memberships are meant to be reciprocal. no matter what spin you put on it the baysde club is NOT approaching this with a more the merrier attitude. same **** different day.
Dear All,
It seems that the Wind Wanderers president has misread my original posting.
Bayside race meets are open to all participants who have AWA insurance, regardless of which club they belong to. However, these races are run by Bayside for bayside members to compete in an overall club competition. It is very naive to think that a non bayside member will be awarded the bayside club championships, just as it is not possible for a non Australian to be awarded the Australian title at the formula competitions. This however, does not preclude a non-club participant form competing on the day and winning races.
At no point has Bayside attempted to prevent anyone from entering our events, nor have we behaved in the so implied manner to be exclusive. The implication of such is no more than grandstanding for attention, and aimed to directly harm the great effort of the Bayside SBC, it's committee and members, who meet regularly to enjoy windsurfing to it's utmost regardless or age, or gender. We are the largest club in queensland for that reason, and more so, I am proud to say the only fully affiliated QLD club of the AWA.
I find the behaviour of the Wind Wanderers executive to be intentionally harmful to this great sport by these provocative postings on this forum. I would suggest that his time would have been better served attending the Windsurfing Queensland AGM this morning, and working to improve our sport instead of trying to tear it down for what reason, i know not.
Good luck to all Bayside members tomorrow, the forecast is firming for a great opener to the season.
