I've just received advise that the 2013 Raceboard Oceanics will be held at Hawknest (Jimmy's Beach) Nelson bay (just north of Newcastle) on 26 to 29 January. Jimmy's Beach is a brilliant place to stage a regatta. It has a sandy beach, good rigging area, clear clean water, open to wind from prevailing NEs and SEs as well as great accommodation. NSW has a strong raceboard fleet based out of Sydney and Woollongong. Competition will be strong.
With 6 new raceboards about to hit Morton bay to join the older boards that occasionaly sail Morton Bay (apologies to Jamie who sails each weekend at RQYS), there is a good chance there will be a string QLD contingent at the Oceanics if we can get out act together. Who is interested?
Simon,
When do the Severne racesails arrive. When will Bayside start raceboard racing?
I sail every weekend when the wind looks like getting over 10kts - usually from the end of the breakwater at manly or at Wynum when the tide is right (I love launching from a sandy beach). This Sunday looks promissing (Bayside are thinking of racing). I hope to see you there.
All the regular crew from rq are planning on going so that's about a dozen plus a couple of others I know will be there.
It was a great event last year and this year is sounding like it will be bigger and better. Can't wait
P.S. if your keen to race there's two races on tomorrow at rq starting at 1.30 get there at twelve to rig sign on etc. To get in stop at reception and tell them your there to try casual racing and they will give you at pin code to get in and out. There should be three other race boards there tomorrow plus the rsx and techno.
I no longer have an rsx so I will be on my mistral equipe or possibly a formula if there's some wind Jamie's normally there and I think da vecta is bringing his speed 250 up again. Failing those guys showing I am happy to race the mistral so you have someone to race with. Kind of keen to see how those new phantoms go. Its a high tide so I Will launch off the beach up the end near the grand stand.
Planning on doing both race board and formula at hawks nest so keen to get as much time on both as possible.
I should be there tomorrow and looking forward to it. Hope the storm keeps away though.
BTW, I thought the Raceboard Oceanics was 26-28?
I hope the storm passes and then it will be nice on the bay. I'm going anyway to sail there this arvo anyway.
Gotta hand it to the RQ sailing office. The moment the rain stopped they packed up the shredded sign-on tent, picked up all the soggy signon-sheets, reprinted them, got the boats on the water and started racing bang on time at 1:30pm. Some of us were even there to cross the start ine ;)
Turned out to be a beautiful day on the water. Had to call buoy room on a large dugong at the bottom mark - smartarse went straight down. Cool move bro.
I agree you have to hand it to them for organisation that's for sure. Great starts and courses. One fleet after the other like clock work.
Well done Jamie you've got that thing flying. Good racing
Oh, I finally got the Artoo joke. That's funny. Cheers for the go on the machine.
I also have to pay huge respect to the young girls on the RSX. They smashed me yesterday. ![]()
5 hrs to get into my daughter set up in her room. Racing at RQ would have been much more fun.
Jamie,
No it's not me chop jumping on the Pan Am, although there was a time I could do it. When is the next race day at RQ?
Next Races are next weekend and they run through to 15th December then there's a break and they start up again in the middle of January.
