Arrive in Cairns tomorrow.
Can't go off sailing non stop... So looking for places where I can get a cheeky sail in.
Is the esplanade off the city all right for a quick flat water session?
Also looking for other good spots to launch from where there is stuff to do for kids etc.
Hi Racer,
I wouldn't sail off the Cairns Esplanade unless you were sure of the tides, too easy to get stuck in the mud.
Yorkey's Knob and Holloways Beach are where the locals go, Yorkeys my old stamping ground is over run with kite tourists, nothing wrong with that just hard to get parking etc, I now go to Holloways bout half way along the beach.
If on family holiday go up to Mossman Gorge for a look, do the tour around Port Douglas and have a sail there, there's a park at the end of Barrier Street where the locals go or from the sailing club.
Of course lock in Green Island ![]()
I'm off the water this week but will be around next week. Should be someone at Holloways each day with a few on the weekend and mobs of kites at the Yorkey's circus.
Cheers Bob.
Are there any windsurfing rental that you could recommend in Cairns ?
I would love to come for a few days, but don't want to carry rig with me.
No hire gear in Cairns, the winds too sus on the coast anyway.
Green Island's the place to be up here for a nice sail, Toody's got new Starboards and Severnes for hire. If on your own or with mates just stay at a backpacker joint and get a weeks pass to Green, live happily ever after ![]()
Give Toody a yell, very nice guy, Lord Mayor of Green toody@marinelandgreenisland.com Ph 0400634809
