Just scored a holiday house for a week or more up in Noosa (yipee!), so keen to sail either Weyba or Cootharaba (probably both
) and some ocean stuff as well. So which lake would be considered the best for windsurfing? Seen some Youtube footage and both look like fun to me.
For some ocean / wave stuff, where would you recommend? Does anyone sail around in the river bar?
The lake is good for flatwater for ocean/open water see below:
NE Wind (Seabreeze):
Noosa River Mouth on outgoing tide, alot of kiters in a small area. Still a reasonably good spot for open ocean/onshore wavesailing
Castaways Beach (Sunshine Beach), very good, if possible do a downwinder to Coolum Beach.
SE Wind:
Castaways Beach - usually bit to onshore, probably better to drive 45mins down to Neil St in Caloundra. Good wavesailing/open ocean sailing
Definitely go with Lake Cootharaba over Lake Weyba. If you are taking family there is no amenities or nearby shops at Weyba. Lake Cootharaba has the lot, mixed with good fellow windsurfers and good food.
As above , NE wave sailing at Sunrise or Castaways, however SE ,Coolum up tight against the headland , not in front of the surf club. Mudjimba works both ways, Neil st is most user friendly waves/ocean.
Thanks for the info
I Googled the spots mentioned and I'm all keen to try as many as possible. Will hit Cootharabah as I have the kids in tow. Looks like a fair sized lake! Bigger than any I've sailed here. Anyway, thanks again.
The guys have pretty much covered it but drop me a pmail when you get up if if you want to check out the bar or castaways.
