New to Brisbane

Hi all, I know this question has probably been asked before, but I am going to ask anyway.
I am moving to Brisbane in august. I am moving from Wollongong NSW and am looking for good spots to go for a sail.
I only started windsurfing last summer, and I have only been out on flat water on the lake.
so my question is where should i go. I only have an old raceboard, I am after flat water with not to overpowering winds.
also are there any clubs worth joining around the Brisbane area?

Haircut wanted you to see the links in the above thread but it looks like that Windwanderers link with the guide to Brisbane sailing spots is busted at present.

Essentially if you want flat water you can go to Wellington Point or Victoria Point (Thompson's Beach). These will be reliably flat because they are sheltered spots. They also have a bit of shallow water if you like that. There's also heaps of sailors there at all stages of expertise. Manly is a bit rougher because its more open, but all three are greatly affected by tide and can be a bit muddy and involve a bit of walking at low water.

Redcliffe is a great spot; very rough when the wind gets up so tends to be sailed by intermediate/advanced sailors, but is not affected by tide. However as the normal wind pattern 'till December will be SE-NE and will normally start out light in the morning you can sail flat-ish water there 'till midday when the wind come in. I learned on a longboard at Redcliffe without any issues.

Wherever you end up living try to make sure that you're reasonably close to the water. Brisbane traffic is getting pretty sucky and if you are centrally located it will take you too long to get to the water and you'll end up not going.

I'm biased but would say that you should live on the Northside, close to the water if possible. Go longboarding in the mornings at Margate beach (Redcliffe), or even round the corner at Humpybong or Pelican Park You could even longbaord of Brighton with the kiters...). Learn to waterstart, get a smaller board, and come up to Queen's beach or Woody Point (you'll find all these places on the map) and enjoy Redcliffe's good, clean unhindered winds and big swells. You'll also be closer to the Sunshine coast which is very pretty and has some good windsurfing options of its own including flat water and pure white sand at Golden Beach.

If you are interested in racing with your raceboard, there are events at clubs at the Paradise point Sailing club(gold coast), Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron (Manly) and Lake Cootharaba Sailing Club (sunshine coast.)
