My new poison made their way to the Gold Coast; at first glance they are very impressive, great build quality and clean design.
Got to rig them up on the front lawn and how sweet are they straight out of the box and perfect rig with a few cranks of the batten screws, the sails are smooth with a different panel layout from the previous year, the sails rigged with more shape, looking good.
The wind blew a little over the past few days and I managed to rig the 5.8 with my wave board. The lads were out on their big gear 6.2 plus some and their 120lt plus boards, I was able to get up and plain even with the light wind, the sails this year seam to deliver more control with the power they are renown for.
10 points to Gaastra for another good sail this year, get in and try the 2010 Gaastra sails worth the wait.
I heard Gaastra changed their mast curve from hard top to constant curve.
Is this true and when did it happen (what year)?
Well yes and no - the 2006 mast was pretty much the same as 2005 as Gaastra did not have time to change masts and completely re-do their sails in only 2 months after Dan came on board.
In 2007 the masts were changed, mainly to get extra re-inforcing around the boom area and stop the kevla freying, a new surface treatment was put on. The result was a slightly stiffer bottom. As far as constant curve and stiff top goes. I beleive Maui sails is still running with Barry's orginal bend curves which are very stiff top. Next we have Gaastra and very close are fiberspar, no limits, tushingham, severne etc. On the other end of the spectrum there is NP and North.
The Gaastra 2009 masts are the same for 2010 also as Gaastra has made a clear statement to only do mast development every 2 years as so much work goes into getting the sails right for the masts it's false economy to be changing masts all the time.
