I brought the family up from Canberra to Queensland for 2 weeks. We had an awesome time at Burrum Heads this week. We met some great people and had a ball sailing the speed strip on 2 days as well as having an hour or so at Hervey Bay last Sunday. We are at the Gold Coast over the weekend but need some help working out what to do next week.

I've heard the tides won't be right next week so there's no point in going back up to Burrum Heads. We saw Lake Coothabara near Noosa on the way down today but it looks a bit flooded. We got some advice to try sailing at Wellington Point. Does anyone have any other ideas? (Also maybe on a good place to stay).

The council have a good "caravan park" with nice cabins in southport, right on the beach, sorry dont know the name, its then a 45 min drive to Wello or an hour and a half to Yamba, or you can sail the Broadwater.................

Akim, what are you looking for in accommodation?

At this stage it looks like we could possibly get a couple of light SE days over the next week, but the light ones can be pretty hit and miss. If there are waves a grovel out at Currumbin (if the swell gets in there) would be fun... I guess Alex needs a bit less than the rest of us.

There is a popular caravan park at Tallebudgerra, right on one of the best swimming spots on the Goldy. It's about 10min max to Currumbin from there, or about 20-30 min to the broad water for flat water. With a really good surf club across the road for a feed. Also there are some pretty reasonable surfing waves around there (not sure if you guys surf??).

Thanks!

That all sounds good.

If we go to Noosa, is there good windsurfing off the beach anywhere or only the lakes nearby?

Accommodation basically, need to do our own cooking and be able to park the van securely. We have sometimes found that with the four of us, it is more expensive to get something at a caravan park than renting a house! We haven't got a tent and the van is full of gear so we need to get a caravan, cabin or house not just a site.

We don't have surf boards and haven't done a lot of surfing. Alex doesn't need a lot of wind although these days he can handle it. He would like more time in the waves but not too big preferably. He really wants a good chance to get the loop happening but hasn't had anything this summer.

Re Broadwater - where do you launch?

On the Broadwater you can launch from a number of places, however the two most popular are the Train, and Shearwater.

The Train (named from the old locomotive that used to be in the park) is the carpark at the end of North Street, Southport.

Shearwater is named after the street it is on. Shearwater ave, Runnaway Bay.

Thanks for all the advice. We had a look at the forecast for Point Perpendicular in NSW and it looked so good we decided to just follow the wind in the end... It's 25-30 knots NE and sunny for Tuesday-Friday so we're hoping for 4 good days sailing at Gerroa.

We loved Queensland and hope to go back soon.
