Just to let you know the AWA has put a lot of effort into securing a new third party insurance policy for club members. It is through World Wide Sports Insurance underwritten by Lloyds The previous insurance was fairly limited and was seen by WQ to leave event participants, organisers and their personal assets very exposed.
Ian Fox from the AWA has organised a new insurer and the details of the new policy can be seen at the following link. It is a huge benefit to the sport and he should be congratulated for his efforts.

Please be aware that the policy is only third party so you are not covered if you hurt yourself or damage your own gear, only if you hurt others (that meet the criteria of policy) or damage their property. I am no lawyer so you will need to read the policy to determine the extent of the cover but it appears to have some major benefits that the last policy did not have. Not least of which is the member to member cover which wasn't available in the previous policy.
The policy is there to protect us all in the case of serious injury and has a bias to that effect and is not there to cover broken kit (hence the $5,000 minimum damage clause). Currently we pay some of the cheapest insurance fees available and this is because there have been very few claims over the years. If people abuse the policy then premiums will quickly spiral out of control and the whole system will fail so please only look at the policy as a fallback for serious claims.
Scot Farley (Secretary / Publicity Officer WQ)
Good work Scotty, Thanks for keeping and eye on this.
It is very easy for windsurfers to only worry about the fun stuff.
