A photographer (Steven Hight) took a great shot of two windsurfers cranking along at Wello last Saturday and it was published on the front page of the Redland Times.
Publicity like this is great for raising the profile of the sport. I can't recognise the sailors but they look like they are having a good old drag on the ocean side of wello.
Lets hope the wind is true to the prediction this weekend so we can have another shot at a front pager. Perhaps the Courier Mail this time?
What were the sails? Me and Nikita were out last Sunday all day, me on a black/white North Duke and a yellow board, and nikita was on a blue Gaastra Matrix. Pretty much we were the only people out until later in the arvo when a few kiters and a few more windsurfers showed up, but noone else stayed out long for some reason, not sure why, water was ridiculously clear, and it was so warm, i coulda gone without my wetty.
We were having an awesome time out the back past the channel, I think Nikita sailed halfway to straddy haha.
Dunno who was out saturday thou, didn't think there was much wind out, otherwise I woulda been there. Anyway would love to see the photos if you can get a scan.
Thanks Steven for adding the pic. I was going to describe the kit but a picture will be a lot better. I am assuming others can see it, my comp sometimes has an issue with bringing in images and just shows me a small box with a square in it. Must be one of my security settings.
The paper was dated the 6th of June and the article said the shot was taken on the Saturday if that helps. The guys are sailing port tack so you can't see them all that well but I don't recognise them or their kit. There is a fair amount of glare from the leaders scone though and it doesn't look like haircut. Any other head shavers out that day?
Sorry Ricko, you wouldn't beleive how close I came to noting your super stardom, I still can't beleive the modeling agencies haven't called. You sure look fine in lycra...
Hope to see you out today, the trees are quiet at the moment but there is still a lot of promise for some good bump and jump day today.
PS: Note to Steven H. I imagine you are the Steven who took the shot. Good image and thanks for getting it in the paper. How did you go about getting them to publish it?
