can someone give me the oil on this spot
seems it would be best in N or NE but what else can you tell me
parking / rigging / tide whatever all appreciated
i don't know if this is much help.
years ago when vitamin sea was at cotton tree a few guys used to sail the nar there. from memory it holds a big wave and when other places on the coast are closing out they would go there. mainly SE winds were when friends would go.
i haven't sailed it myself. Damo probably would be able to give you the low down.
Havent sailed there for a long time. I think the last time was about 6 yrs ago and it was full of kites. and still is. There were only about 3 windsurfers out and it was blowing NE, I have never tried it in a SE.
Parked in the carpark north of the Surf club, or you can park at cotton tree park, near swimming pool and sail down and out the river. Lots of sand banks everywhere at low tide and very strong currents like Caloundra bar.
It is the main kiting beach in a NE. Not many windsurfers sail there as they usually go to the Spit at Mooloolaba. Plenty of car parking near the caravan park but not much grass for rigging. Current can be strong near river mouth & plenty of sand banks making surf break generally rough & all over the place. I have sailed up there from Mooloolaba on my slalom board many times but don't stay there long. May be Ok in a south easter (will be rough) if you don't want to go down to Neil St (Dicky Beach - Caloundra)
Most of the locals will be sailing at Mooloolaba in a solid NE'er. Rig and launch from the end of Parkyn Parade (small shore break). Good ramps at the bank half way between the launching site and Mooloolaba Surf Club (gybe mark). Easy mast high jumps possible when there is some swell running.
Maroochydore Bar. Very strong tidal rips and shallow sand banks close to low tide. Regularly seen small sharks in this area as well. If this does not faze you then no problem. Plenty of open beaches elsewhere to sail in SE'ers. Kiters launch adjacent to the Caravan Park on the South side. I used to launch further South from the Surf Club (next to other caravan park). Away from most flagged swimming areas. Other popular spots with locals are Anne Street in Currimundi (offshore break but big dumping shore break at times) and Caloundra Bar.
