Now's the time to have your say-Please fill out and reply ASAP

See email/link below for details!

The Hire and Drive Personal Watercraft Safety Consultation Paper is still posted on the MSQ website.
However, the electronic response form function on the MSQ website for feedback has been closed.
MSQ will still receive and consider written submissions or paper response forms faxed to (07) 3120 7355 or posted to

Hi Phil, last year there was a lot of consultation with MSQ mainly dealing with the franchise on the southern end of the sand bank. There were some compromises supposedly happening with the Franchise obeying the rules of separation and moving their craft south 100m in a N.E wind. Have you seen this happening?
No ! Who has ?
A whole load of excrement . Our lobby importance is pretty well zilch.
Cheers
Nick

Hi Nick,
Well aware of request to move the markers. The collision of the sailboarder only 20 m from this spot and the inaction of the Maritime authorities has been highlighted in a letter of complaint to Greg Turner posted on the other thread.

Just have to keep plugging away at this- Seen Linda today- leg swollen to twice its size with metal rods potruding out of her leg in numerous spots.
Any one of us could be next!

OK Sent mine off suggesting jetskis must be well away from all other water users in places such as lagoons and alcoves,(problem is yatch love to moore in such places) Hire jet skis must be clear distiguishable in bright colours with either paint of flags, driver also, this will ensure everyone knows they are unlicensed, That the speed should be governed dramitically for hire jet skis.

I dont see any of the above an issue but the lack of room will be difficult in the area.

Great idea the distinctive bright coloured (orange?) jetskis ,vests and flags.. That way they would have to stick to the restricted use rules AND people would be wary of thier erratic behaviour.

Firstly I would like to wish Linda a Speedy recovery and hope she is back on the water soon.
I have filled in the feedback form and will be posting it out today.
Changing the laws of PWC hirers is one thing, but I dont think its just the Hire operators that should ensure their hirers are competent. Retailers should be doing their bit also. I think that if Retailers ensure their customers are aware (as well as Hirers) of the accidents and fatalities that have already occured and the consequences/charges they face in the event of negligence or misuse, it may just make them think twice about how they operate these craft.
I dont know the statistics but I would assume that the number of owner/drivers has probably increased in the last few years so maybe PWC retailers should be made to do their bit also. I feel it is only a matter of time before their are more PWC owner/drivers using the waterways than their already is. In Sydney the numbers of owner, drivers have increased on Botany bay so i feel the chances are they will here. They are now experiencing similar problems but with owners as opposed to Hired craft. For those who havent just read the NSW section.
Maybe it would be a good idea to post the articles of the recent incidents on Jetski Forums. It may just help to make them think about how they ride their craft a bit more.
Just trying to do my bit!!

Once again, Get well soon Linda
