Had my first run on a new Pro-Limit boom yesterday and was well impressed. It is called an assault and has a vee grip technology, which is basically an additional rib that runs on the inside of the boom arm to strengthen it and the result is one of the stiffest aluminium booms I have ever used. I would go as far as saying it is as stiff as a carbon boom.
I am really tough on booms and the last two have bent within the first two rides simply coming out of jumps. I was going to get a carbon boom but had one previously and broke that on my first run after hitting a stray crab pot line. Luckily it held together for the trip home but with carbon it breaks catastrophically while aluminium booms usually just bend and allow you to get home again (except if they are corroded or the crash is a real good'n)
The grip takes a bit of getting used to and I had pretty sore hands when I got in but having said that it was my first run of the season and they were pretty soft so hopefully I get used to that over time.
Certainly a good option for anyone wanting an ally boom that has the stiffness of a carbon boom. The compromise is of course is that it is heavier than a carbon boom, probably heavier that a standard boom if I am honest and that it will corrode over time. I now hang my booms vertically with the head in the air and the clew end down, this way the corrosion is going to be in an area that has the least amount of stresses.
This is the way I store my gear, it seems to take up the least space and also allows me to hang the booms up vertically and with the heads on top.
You sound like my wife. If I am honest there a couple that need to be shifted but I just don't have much time to put the effort into getting rid of them. There are a couple of overlaps there so if anyone wants to swap a speed board for a f2 spice 96 id be interested.
glad u been getting out mate, to busy sailing to glass that mast track back into the supercross still hey:)
It is funny, it's been NE down there all day and from the west here. It's starting to spin now but I doubt it will happen today, it's all still in the red.
wish i'd seen that a little earlier, might have made a dash down to the goldy!
let us know if you got out justin.
Got the same boom as you, takes a while to get used to the vgrip.
Mine is a hybrid (can't see the point though), my only concern being the "prolimit" letters in the grip are falling off.
Also had an issue with the bolt on the swivel part of the head coming undone (unscrews a little everytime you open it) and there was no way I could put it back in.
Had to buy a longer screw/stud (?) and doubled the original bolt with a nilstop one.
Guy at the shop said there is no way I can break this one, (my third this year), we'll see ! [}:)][}:)]
"do you really need all of it?" haha Murrarie you sound just like my wife as well! Of course scotty needs all that gear!
