Hi everyone,
I haven't been windsurfing in a few years and now that I have finished my university studies, would like to reignite my interest in the sport. I currently own a 120L xcite 2009 and weigh about 90kg. When I last windsurfed I was at the stage of learning water starts/jibes/proper use of the foot straps etc. I'm still fit but assuming that everything will be a little rusty.
I was wondering where I should start going (around brisbane) to get back into windsurfing? I am looking for somewhere that's reasonably beginner friendly, hopefully with minimal chop. If anyone could give me a quick overview of the options, or link to information on them, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks and regards,
Jamie
It sounds like you left at a similar level to what I am at now – I am fairly comfortable in the footstraps but am still learning to water start and trying to improve my jibes etc…
I sail mainly at Manly/Wellington Point and sometimes Thompsons beach at Vic Point and find all these places fine - I still have to up haul a fair bit in deep water.
There are usually other windsurfers at these locations to ask if you are not sure
I find Thompsons Beach at Vic Point a really good spot in a SE and about 2 hrs either side of high tide so there's plenty of water. Check Seabreeze for min of 1.5 metres of tide for your timing. If you get into trouble you will only wash up on shore. Always a friendly bunch of guys there as well to help out and offer tips. Also easy to park and no major problems with people swimming and getting in the way like some other places. Should be good today and tomorrow.
Cheers and good luck with getting back into it.
Greg
Really depends where you live. If you are in Brissie say inner southside then head to wynnum or manly in a northeaster or manly in a southeaster. Wello and viccy point are OK, but why drive an extra 20-40 min for no extra benefit.
If you are on the northside then head to queens.
Pick a spot close to you so you can maximise your time on the water and not in the car. Pick your conditions and get some lessons to help speed up the process. Drop Simon at boardcrazy a line and he will have you in the straps in no time.
see you on the water
Thanks for the responses everyone.
Unfortunately I can only go on the weekends so I will have to wait for the conditions. Living just west of the city, I will probably try Manly/Wynnum first and then go from there.
