Hey guys,

I've been planning on learning to windsurf for a couple of months now.

However, I'll be moving around alot over the next two years (Brisbane, Tunisia, UK). I feel like I'd pick up windsurfing a little easier than kitesurfing due to experience as a sailor, and as a result probably enjoy it a little more. Windsurfing is obviously a bit bulkier as far as mobility so I'm finding myself weighing up the possibility of learning to kitesurf instead and picking windsurfing down the line.

Just figured i'd float this here and see what peoples opinions are about mobility, ease of learning and cost of the two options

Cheers

yes kitesurfing kit can be more portable.
Id still recomend choosing the sport that you are most intersted in though.
You can always hire, buy and sell gear as you travel.
If you buy second hand the changeover isnt too bad providing you do not trash your equipment.

Agree with Boardboy. Follow your heart, my friend.
There is always a way to transport your gear.

But note beside bigger, windsurfing board is also more vulnerable, make sure you pack it nicely when traveling.

You might also want to know what kind of condition you are going to get. You might end up having a specific set of gear at which place anyway..

If still in doubt, learn both..

Teamex, it can really help with the quantity of gear if you can decide on a discipline of windsurfing and stick to that. You could conceivably get away with a single board and a couple of sails these days if you choose bump and jump or wavesailing/freestyle. Sure you won't have the perfect kit for ALL conditions but you should cover MOST confitions.

I have a travel bag that carries one small wave board, three sails, two masts and a boom. It even has wheels so its easy to drag along.

Find a new female friend in each town who 1. owns windsurfing kit 2. has great pad near the beach 3. dad owns a brewery.

Problem solved!
